Lock the workspace with Windows Hello doesn't work in Windows 11

avatar

(Automatic) locking with Windows Hello doesn't work in Windows 11. Before upgrading to W11 (in W10), it worked fine.

I use the Windows Hello as application security. When starting RDM it works fine (the WH screen is in the background, which is not very convenient, to make it responsive it has to come to the foreground, that would also be worth adjusting), but for locking the workspace it doesn't work.

Lock is configured:

But with minimization, nothing happens.

Even the lock button doesn't work. But locking is configured, see above.

Have you any idea?

I tried canceling and re-setting the settings, but to no avail. The application password option works, but Windows Hello is significantly more convenient and secure against keyloggers.

Version is 2022.1.21.0 64-bit. But it didn't work with the older versions either.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

Would it be possible for you to create a portable installation of the latest version of RDM and see if this issue still occurs? I am curious to see if this issue occurs with a clean configuration of RDM. To create a portable installation of RDM, you will need to do the following:

1- Download the .zip file below:
https://remotedesktopmanager.com/home/thankyou/rdmbin
2- Create a new folder on your Desktop
3- Extract the content of the .zip file into the folder created at #2
4- Go in this folder once the .zip file has been extracted and run remotedesktopmanager64.exe
5- Enter your current serial

In the meantime, we will see if we are able to reproduce this issue with a Windows 11 machine.

Hello,

I use the free version, is there any possibility to help in this case as well? I don't see an option to use the package as the free version.

Thanks.

Hello,

No problem! Please download the .zip file of the Free version here instead https://devolutions.net/remote-desktop-manager/home/thankyou/rdmfreebin and launch the executable remotedesktopmanagerfree.exe.

Hello,

I've tested it and the behavior is exactly the same.

I am now using the Windows 11 Pro 21H2 build 22000.556. But RDM behaves the same way in previous builds of W11.
My account is an AD account, if that could be related. I use Windows Hello with fingerprint only.

Thanks!
Petr.

Hello,

I just wanted to provide you with a quick update. While we have requested an environment to try to reproduce this issue on our end, we have encountered an issue where our current GPOs are preventing us from building a proper test environment.

We will see what else can be done and keep you updated on our progress.

Best regards,

James Lafleur
