RDM Upgrade Questions

avatar

Hello, we are currently using RDM Version 2020.3.29.0 and Devolutions Server 2020.3.22.0.
We want to update our systems, have however run into a few questions:
(1) Can we update RDM to the latest version without changing our Devolutions Server version
(2) Since an RDM update also brings database update with it, do all clients need to be updated simultanously to ensure all cliens will be able to work ? Or would a older client still be able to Work with a newer database version ?

Hello,

Thank you for your questions.

(1) No you can't update RDM to the latest version without updating Devolutions Server (DVLS) as both applications are closely related.

(2) As you use DVLS as the data source, it's DVLS that manages the database upgrade, not RDM. DVLS is the front end application and only DVLS interacts with the SQL database.

For your information, please see this page about Upgrading Devolutions Server. You will find all the steps to properly update your software.

And if you need assistance for the upgrade process, please contact us at service@devolutions.net to book an upgrade session.

Hello,

We sent emails last friday to better guide customers with this upgrade. Sadly some email addresses are for accounting, accounts payable and the likes. If you want to get included in the next release's update workflow, please contact us to ensure the appropriate email is registered to your account.

Best regards,

Hello,

thank you for answering my questions so quickly.

Since we're currently using the latest stable LTS on our Devolutions Server it is quite confusing as to why we need to update it as well. On that Note, do you have an Estimated Timeframe as to when a new LTS Version will be released and if there will be an RDM lts version ?

Best Regards,

Hello,

The LTS was created, and is maintained with a lot of efforts, to satisfy customers that want stability at all costs, and prevent having to upgrade their installation frequently. It comes at the cost of not having the new features quickly.

Although we intend to maintain backwards compatibility between client and server whenever possible, when changing the authentication layer is just not possible.

As for the next LTS, v2021.2.14 is likely to be promoted as its really stable. We will look into this during March.

Best regards,

Maurice
