Launch RDP connections via Citrix NetScaler/ADC RDP Proxy

Citrix NetScaler/ADC can be used as an RDP proxy, as per https://www.carlstalhood.com/citrix-gateway-rdp-proxy/

Currently RDM can be configured to authenticate to the ADC proxy web login page (i.e. https://rdp.domain.com) , and it can subsequently be configured to launch the auto downloaded RDP file when accessing url (https://rdp.domain.com/rdpproxy/servername). The problem is that it prompts for RDP authentication when opening the RDP session, instead of using credentials from vault. In this scenario the RDP files have dynamic names, and also contain a unique ticket which expires after a set period of time. So a new file needs to be downloaded for each launch.

Would it be possible to add a feature so that RDM can use vault credentials when opening a downloaded RDP file. Ideally this would work with dynamic RDP file names.

Please let me know if you would like further information, or assistance configure a test environment for development of the feature.

Thanks

Hello Joe,

That's an interesting idea. Can you let me know presently in RDM, what types of entries you are using to achieve this? I'm assuming the NetScaler web entry?

I'm wondering if what we could do is when opening an RDP file, prompt to select a credential. Would this work for you, or would you need to configure a specific credential from your vault prior to opening the RDP file?

Hi Hubert,

Thanks for contributing to this. While prompting for a credential would be an improvement, ideally the credential to automatically use could be preconfigured. Less clicks the better.

Thank you for the information, I've opened a ticket so we can see what would be required to add this kind of workflow.

Thanks for some great replies in this thread about Proxy servers. I've just been thinking about buying a proxy server for me. I can still decide what is better, a proxy server or a VPN. Maybe you can help me with this decision. All the tutorials I found on the Internet are unclear about the difference between a VPN and a proxy server. They seem to work the same way, but I know there should be a difference. Is VPN more secure than proxies? Because I've been thinking about setting up a decent residential proxy server Because I want to access websites that are usually closed in my country. For example, I have no access to PayPal. And I would like to use this proxy server to get that access. So We'll be grateful for any replies and suggestions. PS. I'm sorry if some of the questions sound stupid; I'm just a total novice n programming.
