SonicWall VPN Problems

avatar

I've been looking for a connection manager for a while and yesterday downloaded and installed Remote Desktop Manager (version 5.6.3.0), it's a great product but I cannot get the SonicWall VPN to work.

I already had the ssl-vpn netextender installed and the global client installed but the required application (swgvpnclient.exe) did not exist on my machine. I've following the download link in the warning dialog that states the executable cannot be found and got the latest version of the global vpn client (which was a later version than I had installed) but this version still does not include swgvpnclient.exe which I presume is going to initiate the vpn from the command line.

Do you know of another download that will include the required executable?

Thanks,
Jason

hi jason,
the .exe seems to be renamed to "SWGVC.exe" by sonicwall ...
to use it until it is fixed in RDM you could create a hardlink using the link shell extension from http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html and create a hardlink named "SWGVpnClient.exe" to "SWGVC.exe" ...

Hi,
I was not aware that the exe was renamed, don't worry, I will produce a fix this week, Just let me know if the workaround works.

Thank you

Thanks for the help. As a quick test I just copied SWGVC.exe and renamed to SWGVpnClient.exe and the vpn connection worked first time :)

A quick related question - are there any plans to automate SonicWall NetExtender VPN connections in the same way as the Global VPN connections? I've got some customers who use Global VPN and others who use NetExtender so this would be really useful - although I'm not sure if NetExtender provides the ability to automate connections?

Cheers,
Jason

Hi,
If you can find the NetExtender command line parameters, it will help me. I will add this to my todo list and take a look at it. The next VPN if want to add, it's OpenVPN

Thank you

David,

Just checked and the command line options for necli.exe are quoted in the manual http://www.sonicwall.com/downloads/SSL_VPN_3.5_NetExtender.pdf on page 32. Have tested and works as expected e.g.

Look forward to this being integrated,
Thanks for your replies,
Cheers,
Jason

Excellent,
I don't think that it will be hard for me to add it.

will the netextender be added in the next version? and if it is when will the next version be released?

Hi,
It's planned for the version 5.8, you can expect a beta in February. The workaround is to create a command line session until it's really integrated.

Has NetXtender been implemented? I too have some small business clients that use NetXtender instead of the Global VPN client.

Hi,
Yes it's available as an Addon:
SonicWall NetExtender Add-on

You can find it here: http://remotedesktopmanager.com/remotedesktopmanager/Home.aspx/AddOn

Also, the next version of RDM will contain an Addon Manager.
