I don't use RDM for VNC connections much as previously stated there was a lot of work that needed to be done to get it up to par. Time has passed and I tried it again today but found it still not working.
Just trying to find out when we can expect VNC to work as well as the other protocols. Or when we'll be able to install VNC Viewers and intergrade them in to RDM.
I know we can launch external apps from RDM but that is not the seamless experience I am looking for.
Hello,
We are currently working on updating our embedded UltraVNC integration and remove the deprecate flag. We will also try to improve our default VNC. Could you elaborate on what is not working fine exactly?
Regards

I just get an error: "Unable to connect to host x.x.x.x"
Hello ItsSonnyInIT
I'm sorry that you're not able to connect. Can you confirm a few details? What's you RDM version (Help > About)? In your VNC connection entry, what do you have selected for General > "VNC Application"?
The current release of RDM clearly has some deficiencies in VNC connections, but I'd expect most simple scenarios to work. If you can let me know the above information, we should be able to troubleshoot.
To add a little to the OP question; you should start to see some improvements in the upcoming 2022.1 release of RDM. Mainly, we've dusted off the UltraVNC plugin and brought it up to the latest version of Ultra. The integration is not quite perfect yet but it should unblock a lot of scenarios (like using DSM plugins). We'll continue refining this and eventually hope to remove the "Deprecated" tag.
We're also investigating other VNC clients that can be integrated directly into RDM and give a more seamless experience than using the "External" mode.
Finally, when you choose the "Default" VNC application, that's our in-house VNC implementation. It has a reasonably broad set of features but doesn't support all the different authentication modes and add-ons that the different VNC servers have. However, again, I would expect it to work for a lot of scenarios. If you have issues using this, we would welcome the feedback as it either represents a bug or something missing in our implementation, which we are keen to improve.
We now have dedicated developer resources on improving VNC integration so ongoing feedback is useful and should produce real improvements in RDM.
Please let me know any questions or feedback
Thanks and kind regards,
Richard Markievicz
