Adding object shortcuts as a Favorite is not shown under favorites

Hi,
We have structured RDM so that we as administrators can access all objects in RDM for all our customers. We then create folders under each customer that we give certain departments access to. The objects that are in these folders are created as shortcuts of the original object that these users cannot access. This works great but the issue is that when these users, that only have access to the folders with the shortcuts, right click on a shortcut of an object and add it to their favorites, then it does not show up under their favorites tab. I think it is because they do not have access to the original object but only a shortcut to that object that it goes wrong. The strange thing is that when you right click on that shortcut of an object you added to your favorites, then it says "Favorites (Remove)" - so it has done the task of adding it to the users favorites but it is not vissible.
