SSH'ing to Cisco gear crashed RDM

Hi,

Since the past few months, I've been having to resort to plain old PuTTY to access my Cisco switches, firewalls and routers, because, oddly, RDM just started crashing.

SSHing to other devices, such as Linux systems still works fine from within RDM.

When trying to open a PuTTY session (from within RDM) to a Cisco switch (for instance), RDM will ask me for my username/login, then ask me to confirm the SSH fingerprint etc, then finally ask for my password. Upon entering the password, RDM, stalls for a few seconds, then the whole RDM application just closes without any reported error dialogue box.

RDM has behaved like this throughout multiple fixes and releases now. To be honest, I haven't had time to write up a ticket or post before, as I was just hoping it would get fixed, but maybe there is something more sinister or specific to my setup going on, ir no-one else is reporting it?

Can anyone give me some advice on how I can start troubleshooting this, considering the same set-up works for Linux hosts? It can't be a change on my Cisco stuff, as we have hundreds of devices, which are all separately managed, and RDM used to be able to connect to them fine.

Thanks.

Elliot

Oh, it might be worth mentioning that RDM behaves this way whether using it on my laptop or desktop computer (both Windows 10 Pro).

LOL, I think got to the bottom of it... typical.

It appears to be the "Enable Remote monitoring" option Under the main configurations area (Types-->Terminal).

This seems like a weird oversight - can this option be changed so that it detects the host type (ie: linux/cisco/proprietory random SSH host) before actually trying to run the remote monitoring stuff?

Hello Elliot,

What version of RDM are you using? This behavior where RDM crashed because of Remote Monitoring should be fixed in our latest stable release (2021.2.21.0), and I think it was fixed in 2021.1.44.0 as well (the final version of 2021.1). In those versions, instead of crashing, the toolbar with the Remote Monitoring information will simply show no information.
