Hi,
We have a ticket opened for this and it is under investigation. We will post back when progress is made.
You can launch the problematic session externally in the mean time.
Best regards,
Xavier Fortin
Not sure, but possibly related? I've been having crashes in the MS RDP client as well (WindowServer) since 12.0.1...
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/608142/remote-desktop-crashing-entire-system-on-almost-ev.html
Thanks, luke1.
Microsoft Remote Desktop APP works fine on my MBP 16 2020 with Radeon Pro 5600M 8GB graphics on MacOS Monterey. I do not have any crashes with this app (Version 10.7.0 (1933)) so far. It only occurs if I am using the Devolutions RDM app with exactly the same result you are describing in the post on the Microsoft forum.
Hi devolutions49,
Just as a follow up, we reproduce the crash internally. We are currently investigating the issue.
Best regards,
Xavier Fortin
Great, Xavier. Thank you so much. Appreciated.
Hello devolutions49
We're able to reproduce the crash but we're still trying to nail down the specific cause.
Can you try adjusting the "Codec level" of a problematic connection (in the advanced tab) to "6" and tell us if you still experience an issue?
Thanks and kind regards,
Richard Markievicz
Hi Richard,
I did not face any crashes at Level 6 and also Level 7. But the performance is bad. At Level 8 the system is crashing all the time immediately after the Windows Desktop screen appears.
Hope, that helps.
Regards,
Tiemo
Hi Tiemo
Thanks for getting back to us. It helps narrow down the source of the issue. For now, you could consider it a workaround (although I understand the performance is worse). We are working on a fix but it's complicated. We'll post back once there's an update.
Thanks and kind regards,
Richard Markievicz
No problem. I am fine with Microsoft Remote Desktop App for now.
If you need further testing, please let me know.
Regards,
Tiemo
@devolutions49 the official MS RDP app also crashes WindowServer and forces a logout about 50-75% of the time when connecting. So that's no solution.
@lukue1: I am using it since my upgrade to Monterey for more than 10 hours a day for several remote OS (all Windows). I have never had any crashes, yet. Not sure, why you have so many issues with it. Maybe it is graphics / hardware dependent. I am on M5600 graphics. Different driver?
MS RDM is running right now and I started the remote session 10 hours ago in full screen mode on a second desktop.
Hopefully, MS will find the cause for your problem, soon. I keep my fingers crossed.
Hi,
A new version of RDM (2021.2.7.0) is now available with a fix for the system crash (kernel panic).
Please, do not hesitate to post back if you still experience the issue, or for any other issues.
Best regards,
Xavier Fortin
Hi Xavier,
looks good to me. It's time to say THANK YOU to you and your team! Good job!
Best regards,
Tiemo
Glad to hear it works!
A special thanks to Richard Markiewicz who adventured in unbelievable depths to fix this!
Please, do not hesitate for any other issues you may find while using the app.
Best regards,
Xavier Fortin
