Version Management, advise to update without blocking
0 vote
It would be great to have an option to block or not RDM usage if the user doesn't respect the minimum/maximum version specified.
All users don't have enough rights to install the update by themselves, so completely blocking usage is not a good idea. Having the possibility to just tell them they are using an old version and redirecting to a download link would be great.].png)

Hello Sebastien G,
From my understanding, the version management feature would be able to fulfill your request.
You would first need to uncheck the "Disable checks for updates" option once done you can configure your Minimum/Maximum version by checking both options and entering the desired versions.
You can then add the download link to the version you wish them to install in the "Download URL" field.
That being said, we have the following knowledge base article regarding this feature which may be of interest to you:

I always left "Disable checks for updates" checked because I don't want user to be notified when Devolution release a new version....
But Yes, if I uncheck "Disable checks for updates", it act as desired.
"Disable checks for updates" stand for what ?!? Check with devolution server the latest version ??
From the link you sent:
Disable auto update notification
Disable the auto update notification message. Use this to manually update the application and prevent from getting notified when new versions are available.
(also the picture in the link refer to DATA SOURCE SETTING, I'm unable to find it. Does it still exist ? The parameters I modify are in "System Settings", see below)
Based on the meaning of "Disable checks for updates" I will adjust as needed
Hello Sebastien G,
Thank you for your reply,
Indeed, this would be the definition of the option the name was simply changed in the more recent version of RDM.
The same goes for the "Data source Settings" which was changed to "System Settings".
Hopefully, this clears up some confusion,
Let me know if you have further questions,
Best regards,

So you confirm that "Disable checks for updates" stands for "Check for the latest version on Devolution's server" ?
If yes, that's not was is wanted here. I want to be able to manage when they know there's a new version. And I choose that version for them. All that without disabling the source if version is not respected...
Thanks !
Hello Sebastien G,
Thank you for your reply,
Correct, this option will disable the "Check for updates" which you can find under "Help" -> "Check for updates", without this RDM will not automatically check if updates are available.
I see, in that case, you would simply need to configure the "Minimal/Maximal" version and provide the download link to the version you wish them to use in the "Download URL" field.
When connected using a version that is not within the configured parameter the user will be prompted with the "Download URL" and will be able to download and install the provided version in order to connect to the data source.
Hopefully, this clears any confusion.
Let me know if you have further questions,
Best regards,
Samuel Dery
Hello Sebastien G,
Thank you for clarifying your issue!
I wanted to inform you that I've opened a feature request to our engineering department according to what you mentioned over the phone.
