i am searching for a possibility to use RDP shortcuts on a users desktop (looking like ordinary .rdp shortcuts) but using the remote desktop manager as the rdp engine instead of mstsc.
i know i can simply formulate a windows shortcut like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Devolutions\Remote Desktop Manager Free\RemoteDesktopManagerFree.exe" "../../some_name.rdp"
and this works and uses the default settings in remote desktop manager, e.g. "undocked" and "intelligent reconnection".
is there a way to "hide" remote desktop manager completely and only use the RDP engine? as far as i see remote desktop manager opens and then starts the RDP session within. i would like to give the user the same easy experience as with mstsc, just using the devolutions engine.
the reasen why i want to do this is that the mstsc client is not able to use correct screen sizing in a windowed RDP session and remote desktop manager is. also intelligent reconnection is not possible with mstsc.
Hello,
Unfortunately, there is no way to simply use the engine, RDM must be first launched. You can, however, remove the Splash screen and start it minimized to the system tray to hide it.
The options are under File > Options > Application > Application Startup:

Hello Richard,
Thank you, i understand. The way you describe is the best way to go and closes to what i was looking for.
RDM is launching quite slow, is there a "quick start" option or the like?
Hello,
It takes approximately 10-15 seconds to open RDM, but if you leave it open, the subsequent RDP connections will open right away. If you wish, you can always start it automatically when Windows boots to minimize the delay afterward.
