Can't interact with remote desktop after a period of inactivity

Hi,

I really love your RDP client, especially that it allows for custom screen resolutions!

But when I've not interacted with the Windows remote desktop for a while, the remote system becomes unresponsive. I can move the mouse pointer, but I can't click on anything. If I reconnect to the system, it works fine again, but my session is reset.

Am using the latest patch, and have tried on both a Zebra TC21 and a OnePlus 6.

Am I missing something? Is the Android terminal not allowed to turn off the display?

TIA!

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

Which version of RDM Android and what type of Data Source are you currently using? After how long this issue starts to occur? Do you have any connections active at that time? If so how many, on average, and what type?

Best regards,

Hi James,

Version 2021.1.5.8.

After about 45 mins to an hour.

Only active connection is the RDP session, which "times out" / freezes.

Thanks for the quick response,
Jacob

Hello Jacob,

Thank you for your swift reply!

In that case, I would recommend enabling the option "Disable embedded RDP error message" found under File -. Options > Types -> Remote Desktop:

Once this is done, I suspect that these "freezes" won't occur anymore.

Hello,

After having a discussion with our Engineering Department, they confirmed that unfortunately, the test I mentioned in my last reply won't affect your RDP connection in RDM Android.

For this reason, would it be possible for you instead to launch your RDP connection on other mobile applications and see if they work after 1h? According to the information I have gathered on that matter, the Android OS can terminate certain process after a while which would explain this behavior.

Best regards,

Hi James,

Sorry for the delay, but I have now had the time to properly test the issue.

  • If I use Microsoft RDP client on Android, it does time out after about an hour. The client just reconnects automatically.
  • If I use your Remote Desktop Manager, I have to select Reconnect manually.

But the issue then seems either to lie with Android or our server's RDP service.

I thank you for your help!

All the best,
Jacob
