Spiceworks Import doesn't load Assets

Spiceworks Import doesn't load Assets

avatar

I'm trying to get the assets for all 600 servers on my network.

I'm having issues with the Load From Inventory cmdlet, so I did Spiceworks Import.

It imported them all but with minimal information.

Isn't it supposed to import the assets as well, such as OS, Processor, Disk Space, etc?

If not, is there a better way to do this?

My goal is to have RDM as my local inventory management system as well, like Spiceworks Inventory.

What would you recommend?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

Which version of RDM and what type of Data Source you are currently using? Are you on the Free or the Enterprise edition of RDM?
Do you receive any error messages when you use the "Load from Inventory" button? If so, could you please provide me a screenshot of it?

Best regards,

I tried with the Free version first, then I tried with the Enterprise Trial and they both give the same error.

This same server hosts Spiceworks Inventory and it is able to get all the info from WMI on all the servers.

Hello,

Thank you for your quick reply!

Since the WMI requests sent by the "Load from Inventory" do not work seem to work but those made by Spiework do, I would recommend that you keep using this method. If you would like to further troubleshoot this error, you can do so by following the steps listed here: https://kb.devolutions.net/rdm_wmi_troubleshooting.html

Also, you might want to try going under the "Tools" section of your RDP entries and setting the credentials to "Custom" instead of the default "Use default credentials". Once this is done, make sure to enter the credentials of a user that has permission to do WMI call on this remote host.

Let me know if that helps!

That did the trick for that subset of servers!

I'll let you know if I have problems with the others!

Any reason why it doesn't import those details from Spiceworks inventory, since the info is already there?

THANKS!

Hello,

I am glad to see that this did the trick!

As for your question, I am not too familiar with Spiceworks, I will need to contact our Engineering Department to have their opinion on that matter.
I will be in touch as soon as I will have an update to provide.

Hello,

After having a discussion on that matter, our Engineering Department informed us that the behavior you reported with the sync from SpiceWork is as designed. Even though SpiceWork contains this information, only the name of the device is used by RDM to create sessions.

Since using the "Load from Inventory" works for you, I would recommend opting for this method to fill in the "asset" section of your connections.
