hi!
we make use of personal credentials stored in the "user vault" and then use "user specific settings" to overwrite credentials in the "public" vaults.
while it is nice to see where the credentials are referenced (in the tab "referenced by" on the credential stored in the "user vault") one information is missind: the "public" vault the credential is referenced by.
when a user has access to multiple public vaults the "referenced by" tab should also provide this information.

Hello,
I did some testing, and the "referenced by" tab in the user vault will only be able to list things that use this credential in the vault you are currently in.
For example, if you have two shared vaults called Vault1 and Vault2, and in those vaults you use "user specific settings" to refer to your credential in the user vault, the "referenced by" tab will only show the the entries from Vault1 while you are in Vault1, and Vault2 while you are in Vault2. This happens because unless you're in a specific vault, RDM doesn't have access to the entries in that vault.
I want to be sure before adding the column in the "referenced by" that it would actually be useful to you despite knowing this. Otherwise maybe I misunderstand the configuration you have.

hi Hubett,
thanks for taking the time and looking into this!
I think if you could add a line "showing only references of current vault "NAME_OF_VAULT"" it would to make it more clear.
as one cannot change the vault when focusing on "user vault" I wonder if there is any other way to see where a credential is referenced in the current connected database. maybe using reports or multi vault search?

Hello Guenther,
For the location of the label, do you think showing the information there would be clear enough:
Otherwise, do you have a suggestion on where to show this information?
As for finding all references to a user vault credential, I don't think there is anything at the moment that works across all vaults. We do have a report called "credential entry references" but it only checks the current vault. Multi-vault search wouldn't be able to give this information either since if you aren't in the appropriate vault, RDM only has access to meta-information, not all of the information contained within the entries. In this case we wouldn't have easy access to the "user specific settings".
We'll take note of this scenario for future improvements. It's not impossible, it's just that at the moment we don't have the necessary things in place to be able to do this.

hi Hubert,
above the list of entries (the table) right unter the tabs is where I think it would be notable the most.
or - as an alterantive - a popup when focusing "referenced by" with the note and a checkbox "don't show this in the future"
the area you hightlighted would be out of focus (at least for me).
thanks
G.
Actually, I thought about it some more, but maybe adding the column would be better, for the information. I forgot that the "referenced by" will also show things from the user vault itself.
What do you think?

Hubert Mireault
with that in mind I agree.

Thanks Guenther, I've opened a ticket and we'll work on this soon. 🙂

actually, now that i thought about it a bit more too .. maybe you could state an entry of the user vault in the column as "user vault" and in the current active vault as "current vault (VAULT_NAME)". so my idea is to prefix the vault name stating it is the current active one.

I've added this information to the ticket, I think it's a good idea as well.

Hi Guenther,
We have added this feature internally. It should be available starting with version 2021.2.0.0
