Hi,
I'm facing important cpu usage issue while using Remote Desktop Manager Free edition.
When the app is just started, the CPU usage is correct, near 10% CPU, but after some minutes (and not a lot of remote connections) the CPU usage increase to 400%. Today, I even reached 625% CPU. I had only 2 serial connections opened ...
Is there any specific configuration that I could change to reduce CPU usage and power consumption ?
Conf: MacBook Pro i7

Loïc

Hi,
597% CPU is definitely abnormal. Can you give us, in detail, your workflow so we can try to reproduce on our side?
What is your OS version? And what is the version of RDM Free you are using?
Could you use RDM while keeping track of it's CPU usage in Activity Monitor? I'm guessing there might be a bug with something specific in your workflow, and this would help identify it.

Hi Xavier,
PLease find below some further informations:
OS version: Big Sur11.2.3
RDM version: 2021.1.5.0 (but the same behaviour was observed on previous version)
I'm a recent mac user so I'm using RDM since only 3 weeks. I was looking for something similar to MobaXterm on Windows.
I have some configured entries (ssh, sftp and serial). I just connect to it. Sometimes I run 2 or 3 ssh connection on the same remote bench.
I just ran a test with only 2 serial devices conencted to the laptop.
Before use: 0,5%
In use 10-15%
If I unplug the serial device without closing the connection, CPU usage increase to 100%.
CPU usage growth to 112%
If I unplug this second device: CPU usage increase to 200%
Please note that closing connections in RDM doesn't impact the CPU usage which remains at 200%
CPU usage growth a little (205-208%)
I disconnect the network, and I don't observe any gap on CPU usage.
I open a serial connection, CPU usage growth a little (205-208%)
I unplug the device without closing the session, CPU usage increase to 300%
I open a serial connection, CPU usage growth to 312%
I close the serial 1 minute before unplugging the device, CPU usage increase to 410%
I work a lot with SSH remote connection (and not really often with serial devices) and even if in my small test I didn't see any gap today, I think there is a corner case in which the CPU usage increase in the same way than for serial devices.
I'm often moving with the laptop and maybe sometimes connection is lost.
The only way I found to recover a descent CPU usage (and some noise comfort) is to completely quit the application.
Best regards,
Loïc
Hi,
Thanks for the detailed walk-through. I will open a ticket and we will investigate this. There definitely seems to be a problem at the very least with Serial port entries.

Hi Loic,
A fix has been done internally. I will post back here when a version with the fix is available.

Hi loicpasquier,
Could you try the latest version? It should contain a fix for the issue.

Hi Xavier,
I made the update 1 week ago and I didn't reproduce the issue since.
Thanks.

Glad to hear it!
