RDM not populating userame and password fields in Remote Desktop session

RDM not populating userame and password fields in Remote Desktop session

avatar

Hi,
We have RDM installed on our RDS 2019 server, when we try to connect to a website the fields get populated.

Using the same RDM account on windows 10 RDM field population works fine.

Are you able to help with this problem?

thanks,

Fulton.

Hello,

Is the issue on your workstation or on the RDS server?

Could you post a screenshot of the error message that you receive?

Best regards,

Hi Jeff,
Sorry, the issue should read as below:

We have RDM installed on our RDS 2019 server, when we try to connect to a website the fields do not get populated.

The issue on occurs on the RDS server only, no errors are displayed.

Hello Fulton,

Thank you for your quick reply!

Would it be possible for you to provide us a screenshot of the configuration of one of your RDP connections with which you experience this issue?

Hi James,

There are so many configuration setting in RDM, what screenshots would you like to see?

Using Chrome as the selected browser, and Display > External > Default, fields are not filled.

Using Chrome as the selected browser, and Display > Embedded (tabbed) Fields are filled.

Hello Fulton,

My mistake, according to the information you have provided us so far, I thought that the autofill issue you were referring to occurring with your RDP connections. That being said, as per your last comment, it seems to occur with web connections (either Website or Web Browser entries). For this reason, please find my answers below:

1- Using Chrome as the selected browser, and Display > External > Default, fields are not filled.

In order to have your credentials auto-filled on your web page when it is opened in your native browser, you would need to use the Devolutions Web Login (DWL) extension. RDM cannot autofill your credentials on external web pages without this extension. For more information, please consult this link: https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/devolutionsweblogin_installationchrome.html

2- Using Chrome as the selected browser, and Display > Embedded (tabbed) Fields are filled.

When your web page is opened in embedded mode using "Chrome" as your embedded browser, we will use the following method to insert your credentials on the web page: https://kb.devolutions.net/rdm_web_browser_web_authentication.html

Let me know if that helps!

Hi James,
There is a misunderstanding here, so I'll try and clarify. ;)
We use RDM on our local computers when in the office, but to access RDM from home we remote into a work server(Remote Desktop).
I'm not referring to an RDP(Remote Desktop ) session from within RDM.

Using RDM on a local PC everything works fine, but using RDM from within an Remote Desktop fields are not being populated.

I probably wasn't very clear from the start, anyway does this make more sense now?

Hello Fulton,

Thank you for this clarification.

Would it be possible for you to provide us a recording that demonstrates both behaviors and to send us the video using the secure link I just provided you via private message?

Hello Fulton,

Thank you for your recording.

Would it be possible for you to provide me a screenshot of the configuration of your DWL extension on your remote host? According to your recording, RDM is installed on the remote host along with the DWL extension but I suspect that there might not be a link between the 2, preventing the extension from fetching your credentials from RDM correctly.

Also, would it be possible for you to set a "Custom Port" on both RDM and DWL on this remote host? I suspect that in doing so, your credentials will be available on this website. To do so, please refer to this link: https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/devolutionsweblogin_securedwl.html

Hi James,
I have giving each Remote Desktop user a unique RDM port number as you suggested, currently we have 4 people connected simultaneously via remote Desktop.

Perfect timing for the resolution, as we just went into this crazy political driven lock down(Victoria, Australia) 9 hours ago ;)

I'll keep monitor it over the next week, but looks promising thus far.

Thank you for the time you spent in helping work through this issue.

This may be related, but I'm attempting to log into an embedded web browser session and the credentials appear to be passed except I get the following error:

Web Browser Notification
The password couldn't be filled. The field isn't secure. Please verify your settings.

This is with Google Chrome. Is there a setting somewhere that will correct this behavior? I never used to have this issue.

Hello Tom,

I suspect that unchecking the option "Only send password in HTML password field" under the "Login" tab of your Web Browser entry may help in this case: forum image
Would it be possible for you to test this and see if it work for you?

That's the problem. If I don't check that box, it never attempts to fill in the password. It just highlights the word Password next to the field. The id for the field is "password" as discovered using developer tools for the web page.

To provide more information, the web page is to an Avocent console server. We have had sessions to these work for us in the past where the credentials get passed automatically and is auto submitted. It's just been lately that this has not worked.

Hello Tom,

I understand, thank you for the clarification. In that case, when did this issue start to occur? Was it after a recent upgrade of RDM? If the session was working before and the proper IDs are used, I suspect that this could be caused by a recent upgrade of the third-party library that we are using to open web connections using the embedded display of RDM.

While updating this library helps us implement new features and correct issues, it can happen that the autofill of credentials stops working for sessions that worked in the past. Sadly we have no control over any changes made to this library. When such issues occur, using the external display and have the Devolutions Web Login extension fill in your credentials is what we usually recommend.
