Import Sessions from CSV - ConnectionType SSHShell

avatar

Hello -

RDM 2021.1.26.0

Importing a CSV containing session data that I would like to be SSHShell sessions. I looked at an existing entry (Clipboard -> Copy) and it shows "ConnectionType" is "SSHShell". I have a column for ConnectionType with a value of SSHShell but all sessions are imported as Remote Desktop sessions.

I also noticed that these there is a Terminal\Host and Terminal\PrivateKeyPromptForPassPhrase, so I added columns for those (Terminal\Host containing the same IP address in the host field and Terminal\PrivateKeyPromptForPassPhrase containing "false") but it didn't make a difference, they still import as Remote Desktop connection types.

For now, since the imported items remain selected after importing, I'm able to use batch edit convert to change their type, but I am trying to establish a repeatable process and would like the session type date in our CSV import to be honored.

Any advice?

Hello,

I'm wondering if you could provide me with a small sample of your .csv file?

I will contact you via private message with a link so that you may provide us the file.

I'm not sure if you've already seen this article on our knowledge base:
https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/importcsv_strategies.html
I believe it may be helpful in your case.

Hello,

Thank you for providing me the sample.

Simply adding a space between "SSHShell" like so "SSH Shell" should allow you to import the entries as "SSH Shell" entries, from testing on my side with your sample, this seemed to resolve the issue.

Thanks Samuel, I'll give that a try.

May want to log a bug. When you look at the connection entry XML via Clipboard copy, it shows as "SSHShell" with no space.

Hello,

I've opened a ticket to our engineering department about this behavior.

Hello,

I've discussed your case with the engineering department, they've informed me that this issue should not occur when using the "Generic Csv wizard" import.

If you experience the same issue using that mode let me know.

However, from quickly testing with your sample I did not experience the issue.

Ok thank you. So then what does "session" mean? I guess I'm confused when you would use generic vs session, since when you create a new entry of SSH it's creating a new session.

Hello,

Indeed, I can understand how this would cause some confusion.

The "Import session Csv Wizard" is simply the older version, it was left there in case the "Generic Csv Wizard" did not work for some users, in such cases the option to use the older method would remain available.

From my understanding, it is always recommended to use the "Generic Csv Wizard". The type can be changed using the option at the top right corner of the importer.

Thank you very much for that detail. I've always wondered about it and why there were so many options, maybe they can remove the legacy ones in an upcoming version. I'll use Generic CSV Wizard instead.
