Very annoying and not accessible update window in the background.
Recently it happens again and again that the update window appears in the background of the RDM and is then no longer accessible. As a result, the RDM can no longer be used because the update window requires confirmation.
It would be nice if the update window did not block the whole RDM. When this happens I always have to kill the RDM completely via the task manager.
Hello,
Could you let me know which version of RDM and which type of data source you're using?
Perhaps, you could provide a screenshot of your issue?
Best regards,
Samuel Dery
I am using the latest version and it has been happening for many versions before. I can't show you a screenshot because you wouldn't see something. Just a RDM which is unresponsive because the update window is in background.
Best regards, Tom
Hello Tom,
I'm wondering if pressing the keyboard shortcut "ALT+Tab" allows you to access the update in the background? If this does not work perhaps the following option could help resolve your issue.
Under "File' -> "Options" -> "User Interface" in the "Advanced" section enable "Always on top"
Let me know if this helps,
Best regards,
Samuel Dery
Today I had the same again on another machine (it happens on multiple machines). You see in ProcessExplorer two instances of RDM. I think one was the Update Window and the other the RDM itself.
I assume it mostly happens when the Update Reminder pops up and you close an RDP session to the machine where RDM is running. After that the Update Window disappears in the background and blocks completly the RDM.
Hello,
We've discussed what we could do to improve the behavior of the update window and we'll make it so it doesn't lock the RDM UI. I've opened a ticket internally and I'll post back here when we have a fix for it.

Hubert Mireault
Hello,
Letting you know the changes have been made and will be available starting with RDM 2021.1.8.0. The update window will not block RDM starting with that version.

Hubert Mireault
Thank you Hubert, I will try as soon as it's available.
