Is there a way integrating Bomgar Access Console in to the Devolutions Remote Desktop Manager?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

We do not currently have an official integration for the Bomgar Access Console unfortunately. We only have one for the Bomgar Representative Console.

If you are able to launch the program with a command line, you should be able to create a Command Line entry to be able to launch Bomgar Access Control through RDM.

With that said, I will take the liberty to move your thread in the Feature Request section of our forum so our engineering team can see your request and let you know if an official integration for the Access Console would be possible.

Best regards,

Hello,

To add onto what Gabriel has said, do you know if they have a command line or an API? Or is it a web-based console? We don't have an environment to test this at the moment so your help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Currently I am using a command-line
"C:\Program Files\Bomgar\Bomgar Access Console\xx.xx.ch\bomgar-acc.exe"

What I also see is an "bomgar.ini" file within the execusion folder.

The file shows where to connect to. In my example to xx.xx.ch

[Installer]
Ping=1
IsInstalling=0
RequiresElevation=1
[General]
www_host=xx.xx.ch
build_version=18.1.5
build_revision=30998-2947ce1c5f3198f58e22af7140c1427bbeff2d56
build_date=20181004080111
[Sounds]
chat=C:\Program Files\Bomgar\Bomgar Access Console\xx.xx.ch\chat.wav
newcustomer=C:\Program Files\Bomgar\Bomgar Access Console\xx.xx.ch\new_sdcust.wav
overduecustomer=C:\Program Files\Bomgar\Bomgar Access Console\xx.xx.ch\overdue_sdcust.wav
assigncustomer=C:\Program Files\Bomgar\Bomgar Access Console\xx.xx.ch\assign_sdcust.wav
losecustomer=C:\Program Files\Bomgar\Bomgar Access Console\xx.xx.ch\lose_sdcust.wav

If it helps you, I could send the exe. More an more customers are using Bomgar and it would be great you guys could somehow integrate it in RDM.

Hello,

Thank you for the information. Does Bomgar Access Console have multiple executables, one for every "host"? In this case you would have "xx.xx.ch", "yy.yy.ch", etc? If not, how do you connect to different hosts if the ini file only points to the same host? It's not a problem for RDM to create this same ini file and changing the host, but I'm wondering if it would achieve the correct result, or how RDM would configure it if you need different executables for different hosts.

Hello Hubert,

We got the a setup file "bomgar-acc-installer.exe" from our customer, which created the folder C:\Program Files\Bomgar\Bomgar Access Console\xx.xx.ch. The folder contains all the Bomgar files needed. No program files were created one or two folders higher. I believe an yy.yy.ch connection would be just another path/folder and would contain a new INI file with all the program files again.

Hello,

I wonder if something like this would work for you.

An entry where you can choose two modes: "Custom path" or "prompt".

  • In custom path mode, you can specify a path, for example to the xx.xx.ch folder. When opening the entry, RDM will then open the appropriate executable in that path
  • In "prompt" mode, when executing, you will be prompted to choose a folder in the "C:\Program Files\Bomgar\Bomgar Access Console" path. For example, if you have xx.xx.ch and yy.yy.ch, you can choose the one you want out of the two when opening.
  • There are no hosts to be specified, or credentials supported. You can only choose the executable paths.

The downside is that all of your users would need to have the executables installed to properly connect to the clients.

The other suggestion would be one where you specify the host in the RDM entry, and when opening, RDM rewrites the .ini file in the specified path to change the host with the one configured in the entry. The downside is that it would overwrite the host of, for example, xx.xx.ch with yy.yy.ch, so when using Bomgar Access Console outside of RDM, your configuration wouldn't be correct anymore.

Let me know what you think. This is tricky because we don't have access to testing this application in our environment as far as I know.

Hello Hubert

I must say, your second suggestion sounds very interesting. But the question is, whether I can open two different Bomgar connections at the same time. If that's not possible, then your first approach with the custom path would be better.

Bomgar opens with a login screen. Username and password is demanded. That's why, a credential support in RDM would be convenient.

Maybe it would be helpful for Devolutions, aquiring a test version of Bomgar. I expect more customers in the near future sending Bomgar access to partners.

Hello Chris,

The only thing is, if the application itself doesn't support passing the username and password, RDM can't do much about it other than with macros which aren't very reliable or secure. In this case, it would be good to know if the .ini can contain credentials, or if it can be passed through command line...

I should have checked earlier but I realised that Bomgar acquired Beyondtrust a few years ago, and we have a partnership with them. At the moment we are working with them to setup an environment for BeyondTrust Password Safe so we can add new features to the integration we currently have (2FA, etc). We'd have to wait until we're done with that side of things before configuring an environment for the access console.
