RDM: update management

Disabled

Again i realy love the features of RDM. But updating the application in a corporate environment could be better.
So we are using a datasource. As administration in the system settings --> version managment I can select the minimal and maximum version of the application. Perfect

I can also disable auto update notification. The information about this is a little bit sparse but is suppose this makes sure that the users of the datasource do not get notifications of updates. But for example now I allow 2020.2.19.0 to 2020.2.20.0. If I do not disable auto update notification, will they get an update notification if version 2020.2.21.0 is released?

If so, this is not really what i want. I want to be able to validate which version can be installed by the datasource. If the maximum version is 2020.2.20.0 then i don't want my users to get the possibility to upgrade to a higer version. Also users can disable "the check for updates setting" in the application settings. If connected to a datasource i would like to be able to override this setting.

Finally, i would like to be able to give a message to my users at the startup of the program when connected to a datasource. For example, I know a new version is released by the RDM team and this requires a database upgrade. Then i would like to be able to notify my users that i will upgrade the database the next weekend. So they know that the will be obligated to upgrade to the new version after my upgrade. This is necesarry again in a scenario when users are on-call for our customers. If they need access to data in RDM, and they don't have the vault in offline cache. Then they will be forced to first upgrade to the new version, which takes time. And we supply service to our customers in time sensitive production critical environments, where every minute counts. Also this adds to the stress of the service engineer that they have to upgrade, so if this could be notification could be added that would be amazing.

Last point on my mind. Every time i upgrade my remote desktop manager version the short cut on my taskbar vanishes. Can this be fixed?

Hello tom17,

Ping back from: https://forum.devolutions.net/topics/34516/rdm-install-warning-when-new-database-version-is-needed

I agree so far. Centralized Management of updates would be nice.
Like: release of a new version -> db upgrade -> user-notification -> automatic update after starting RDM client.

You can use the "System Message" feature for this. Administration > System Settings > System Message.

The message will display for every user on every connect but with the option to ignore the message. If/when the message changes, the "ignore this message" is reset and we start over. So you could put the upgrade warning message here a week or so ahead of time to warn all the users of the pending upgrade.

For the last point, we finally fixed the pin to taskbar issue in 2020.3.
