Couple weeks ago i updated Windows and RDM (Free) to current updates, after that RDP sessions starts freezing during copy/paste operation - entire RDM window become unresponsible for 5-10 seconds after i use paste (CTRL+V).
RDM version is 2020.3.6.0.
Ordinary RDP connection works fine, as intended, no freezes.
How to fix this?
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us on that matter! I have a few questions to give me a better idea of what you are working with and what could be causing this issue.
Best regards,
Gabriel Degrandpré
Hello,
Thank you for your reply. Just to make sure, when you write that the "Latest" and "RDP 8.1" RDP Versions work for you, do you mean that you are able to establish a connection or that you are able to paste in these sessions without RDM freezing?
Best regards,
Gabriel Degrandpré
Yes, i mean, that i can establish connection, but pasting still freezing.
With "FreeRDP Latest" it's unable to connect at all. it gives error "unable to connect to host %hostname%"
UPD:
"FreeRDP Latest" mode unable to connect to Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard ( 10.0.17763 N/A Build 17763 )
It works with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard ( 6.3.9600 N/A Build 9600), but VERY laggy and copy/paste completely not working, even enabled in connection properties.
Hello,
Thank you for your reply. I have a few additional questions regarding your usage of the copy-paste to help us narrow down what could be the cause of the issue.
Best regards,
Gabriel Degrandpré
Hello,
Thank you again for your replies. When you have some time, I have a test I'd like you to do. However, before being able to send you the procedure for the test, I'd need to know the version of RDM you were using before upgrading to the beta.
Best regards,
Gabriel Degrandpré
I'm using current RDM Free version 2020.3.6.0.
Hello.
Sorry to jump in, that being said, would it be possible for you to create a portable version of RDM Free and see if this issue still occurs?
To do so, you will need to do the following:
1- Download the .zip file below:
https://remotedesktopmanager.com/home/thankyou/rdmfreebin
2- Create a new folder on your Desktop
3- Extract the content of the .zip file into the folder created at #2
4- Go in this folder once the .zip file has been extracted and run remotedesktopmanager64.exe
5- Enter your current serial
Also, do you remember on which version of RDM you were prior to experiencing this issue?
Best regards,
James Lafleur
Version from this link is same 2020.3.6.0, as release.
Also, it offer me update to beta .2020.3.8.0, do i need to update to it?
I used version 2020.1.20.0 before and tried to downgrade to 2019.1.41.0 - it's also have same issue.
UPD: beta 2020.3.8.0 have same issue
Hello,
Sorry for the confusion. The link I provided you in my last reply was to be used in the creation of your portable version of RDM.
That kind of installation allows us to see if this issue still occurs with the default configuration of RDM since it creates a separate installation of RDM.
For this reason, could you please create a portable version of RDM instead of updating your current installation? I would like to see if this issue persists with it.
Best regards,
James Lafleur
Both version - from installer and portable affected same issue.
Ordinary mstsc works fine, without any problem.
So, i tried 2019.1.41.0, 2020.3.6.0, beta 2020.3.8.0 - all of them have such issue.
Looks like, it's bug with latest update of .Net...
Hello,
Thank you for performing this test!
In that case, would it be possible for you to see if the same issue occurs with RDC Manager from Microsoft? Since RDM uses the same RDP Active X, it will allow us to see if this issue is related to it or to our application.
RDC Manager can be downloaded here:
https://kb.devolutions.net/rdm_rdc_manager.html

RDC Manager affected same issue. Looks like, ActiveX is bugged.
Hello,
Thank you for confirming. If the issue also occurs in RDC Manager, this does seem to indicate that the issue is on the side of the ActiveX. This means that the workaround we have to suggest would be to launch your sessions in External mode to avoid the freezing when copy/pasting in RDP. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Best regards,
Gabriel Degrandpré
External mode work fine, because it's not using ActiveX, but it's not so convenient in separate window.
Do you have plans to extend support of Windows Server 2019 for FreeRDP mode and fix lagging and copy/paste inside it?
Hello,
We will try to reproduce the issue you have experienced to see with engineering if something could be done in FreeRDP to solve the issue or implement an alternative. We will let you know if development is made on that front.
Best regards,
Gabriel Degrandpré
