MAC address discovery both freezes RDM and is wrong
When clicking on the 'asset' page for the properties of an entry. If you click the magnifying glass for the MAC address field to discover a MAC it freezes RDM for about 8-10 seconds. Then when it finally starts responding again the MAC address that it discovers is not the MAC address of the entry.
How do I get RDM to
a) stop freezing when doing MAC discovery
b) discover the correct MAC for an entry

It indeed freeze when searching for the MAC address, I will look into it in order to find out why.

Same as the Inventory Report, the MAC address discovery uses WMI to fetch the computer's MAC address, I do not believe we have any ways of making this process faster,
As for the second issue, I was not able to reproduce it on my side would you be able to send a recording of the issue using the link I sent you in Private Message?

WMI only works for windows machines. What if I want to discover the MAC of a firewall, or a network switch, or a linux server, or anything other than a windows machine?

That is correct, but we do support the "Load from Inventory" with some Linux OS. You could give it a try by manually setting the OS and then search for the MAC.
