how to shadow windows 10 comps?

avatar

Hi All,

I'm trying to find out if its possible to setup a shadow of a Windows 10 Computer?

i already use this method here via a bat file (http://woshub.com/rds-shadow-how-to-connect-to-a-user-session-in-windows-server-2012-r2/) (http://woshub.com/rdp-session-shadow-to-windows-10-user/)

and it works perfectly!

but im trying to setup the computers inside the RDM to avoid having to use the bat file and enter comp names etc

i just wanted to select a computer from the list and click connect and it shadow there session?

is it possible inside RDM?

Regards

Simon

Hello Simon,

this is indeed possible with the Microsoft RDS Dashboard (Terminal Server) session type.
You can configure this as Template and execute against your existing sessions (Open with Template)

Hi Min,

thanks for the suggestion, not too sure how i do it via a template? any hints/tips?

i have been able to find a long way around tho thanks to part of your suggestion

  1. create a RDS dashboard entry per computer (the site only has 10 comps so not too bad)
  2. used the Administrator credentials for the comps as they are all in domain anyways
  3. connect to the comp in question, then select the console session and click Connect(Shadow mode) with the no consent option ticked

(its in there T&Cs that we can just connect in to help them anytime, before anybody screams at me about privacy)

altho i am a little concerned that while watching the sessions on that computer, its sending and receiving 120kbps all the time to port 445 of the computer?

Hello Simon,

your steps are fine 😉
It's also possible to accomplish this without an entry per computer and with just one Template.
Did you checked the further links regarding Templates from my first post?

Hi Min

i did manage to get the template to work

created template with full details (user, pass, domain, etc)
altho it complained i needed to enter a hostname regardless which in my eyes is a BUG as a template doesnt need a hostname because you give it one when you create from the template

i was then able to use the quick connect to enter the comps ip or hostname and it works fine :)

Hello Simon,

glad to here!
No, its is not a bug, because its possible to use Variables - so in your case the $HOST$ variable could be useful 😉
