Terminal (SSH) CTRL+Shift+C CTRL+Shift+V copy paste

avatar

For 25 years we have been using the CTRL+Shift+C and CTRL+Shift+V combinations to copy paste in SSH sessions on different platforms and many software products.
How or where is it possible to define keyboard shortcuts for our SSH sessions.

Thanks much!

Hello,

We've opened an improvement ticket to support these shortcuts for copy/paste actions.

Thank you very much Hubert, but to clarify: are there currently ANY keyboard shortcuts that allow copy-paste when no mouse is present?

Thanks!
Robin

PS: Just to get a feeling of things here, when you say an improvement ticket was opened, what timeframe do we have to expect until a usable solution might be added?

I checked and you can copy/paste in the terminal by using Ctrl+Insert and Shift+Insert. Since our terminal behavior is based on PuTTY, the shortcuts were the same as well, but having CTRL+SHIFT+C/V for copy/paste is closer to the regular shortcut, so it's a good idea to add it. 🙂

At the same time, I noticed we can't do text selection strictly through keyboard, so we'll add SHIFT+Arrow keys as well.

At the moment we're focusing on RDM 2020.3, which is planned to release in September. You can expect this change to make it in the first release of 2020.3, since it's quite a simple change.

An additional note, the part about Shift+Arrow isn't as simple as I thought when I first replied, after consulting our developer in charge of the terminal, but for the copy/paste shortcuts that will definitely be in for 2020.3.

Hello,

Just to let you know, the changes for Ctrl+Shift+C and Ctrl+Shift+V have been made internally. I can confirm they will be available in our first release of RDM 2020.3.

Hello Hubert, we had this working for a while (at least I believe it was based on RDM's doing), but unfortunately no longer.
Has this been removed from the OSX and Windows application, or where would I have to change what in order to get a custom keyboard shortcut for copy and paste in SSH sessions?

Specifically for Windows this would be CTRL+Shift+c for copy and CTRL+Shift+v for paste.
For Mac OSX it would be Command+Shift+c for copy and Command+Shift+v for paste, since we already swapped the command and control key in OSX keyboard settings.

I found shortcuts in settings and they even work as expected, but seem to be for RDM itself and not for SSH terminal sessions.

Thanks!

Hello Robin,

I don't think this was intentionally removed. We recently reworked our terminal (a few versions back), so it's not impossible that this was cut without meaning to.

I will open a ticket and contact our terminal expert for investigation. We will get back to you once we have an update on the subject.
