Hi all.
It's been a long time from my last visit to this forum (+2 years) because of a "sudden big peak" in work tasks (also named "ransomware intrussion") and many coworkers changes (in and out).
Today, when I was trying to put some order to RDM users so my new colleagues can use it to connect to our systems, I've got a bunch of doubts.
We have 6 users license pack that expires at March 1, 2021 (RDM Enterprise).
We use SQL Server as Datasource and all our users are AD Integrated.
I've deleted all our old users and added the new users and assigned a license to them.
But there are some users (2-3) that need to use RDM only sometimes and only using a group of sessions (i.e., one of them use RDM for about 2 weeks in a month and, if all is ok, he will not connect until 4-5 months later).
I've seen that this users don't have a license assigned to them, they are configured as read-only users. I don't know when this configuration was done (too many people in and out and not only one user administering RDM all this time) but I think that they have been using RDM with this configuration.
So I don't know if I'm not understanding your RDM licensing or perhaps, even if they can use RDM, we would be in an "ilegal use" of RDM.
Please, can you tell me if we would need to buy new licenses for this type of users?
Perhaps (in analysis now) we could get an "operators team" in the next months. They would have restricted permissions in RDM, read-only access, no changes, only "click and connect". Would we need a user license for everyone of them?
If we would need to buy new licenses now, could we pay for only these months until March 1, 2021, and then renew all of them at the same time?
Thank in advance.
Regards,
Héctor
Hello Hector,
Thank you for contacting us on that matter!
In order to use Remote Desktop Manager, each of your named-user will need to have their own license. Even if your 2-3 users do not use RDM often, they will need to have a license to use the application.
The great thing is that with the latest versions of RDM and a SQL Server Data Source, you will be able to manage these licenses using the "Administration -> Licenses" menu:
As for your last question "If we would need to buy new licenses now, could we pay for only these months until March 1, 2021, and then renew all of them at the same time?", that is something that can be done by our sales department. Would you like me to ask them to contact you on that matter?
Best regards,
James Lafleur
Thank you for your answer, James. Just now, I don't know how many users would be in the new operators team, and those 2-3 "casual users" would not be back until about the end of this year. At that time, we need to know the number of users in operators team, so we could buy all new licenses at a time.
We are also internally discusing about DPS, so perhaps I'll be back soon with questions about RDM and DPS (and DPS licensing modes) :-)
When we have everything clear, that will be the time to contact your sales department.

Hector
Hello Hector,
That is perfect! We will wait for your return.
