No longer will connect to host

I've been using RDM to connect to my macbook from my windows PC. It's mostly worked without issue until this morning. When I try now to start a session it gives an error saying it can't connect to the host. This happened once before and I deleted the entry and recreated it. This time that is not working. Reboots aren't helping either. Anything to try?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on this matter!

Can you confirm that the Macbook's IP hasn't changed ?

If not, can you describe the context of this connection? ( Network relation between the two devices, OS version on the Mac, RDM version on the Windows PC, Entry-type used to connect to the Mac )

Best regards,

Both computers are on my home network, the macbook via wifi. I'm not sure if the IP address changed (not by my doing if so), but I'm not using the IP address. I'm just connecting using the macbook's name. I set it up using ARD. RDM version is 2020.2.15.0 64-bit. macOS is Catalina 10.15.5. Thanks.

Due to your question I looked up the macbook's local IP address and created a new entry using that instead of the computer name. This worked. Not sure why I would have to use IP when name worked up until today, but it's now a curiosity instead of an emergency :)

Hello medwards75!

I'm glad to hear that using the IP directly worked. As for the reason the hostname of the machine didn't work it could be a number of factors which mostly come down to something that has changed on your local network, one of the machines used a VPN perhaps or your router may not recognize the name for some reason anymore. Setting static IPs and connecting using those is always the safest bet.

Best regards,
