I have been using RDM free for years now and noticed several months back when I tried to download and upgrade, the install just spins. I tried uninstalling, then rebooting, then downloading and installing the latest version. Now it still just spins on install and I don't have my old version to use.
Any ideas if I need to remove old folders, registry entries or anything else?
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us on that matter!
To perform a clean installation of RDM, you would need to go under your %LocalAppData% and move your Devolutions Folder to your Desktop (instead of deleting it).
Once this is done, you will be able to perform a clean installation of RDM Free without the interference of your local configuration.
The latest version of RDM Free can be downloaded here:

Followed the instructions above moving Devolutions folder from %LocalAppData% folder to Desktop (see screen shots below). I am at 5 mins on the install and still stuck at screen (3rd screen shot) just after it requested permission to install. I have administrator rights on the machine. Other thoughts?
Hello,
In that case, could you please uninstall RDM using the tool mentioned here:
https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/troubleshooting_uninstall.html
Please note that if you are using a local data source like SQLite or XML, your data source, along with the entries saved inside it, is located in the configuration folder that I made you move to your Desktop.
Best regards,
James Lafleur
Since the previous uninstall of RDM free completed successfully, there is no entry in the Add/Remove programs for the installer/uninstaller can work against. When I run MsiExec from opening from the web site, it asks for a GUID identifier for the program to be able to search the registry. I am not aware of how to get that guid from the installer. This running the Uninstall and Not Listed path on the troubleshooter. Also tried this in the CMD prompt and this is the syntax C:\Users\drogers\Downloads>msiexec /i "Setup.RemoteDesktopManagerFree.2020.2.16.0.exe" /L*V "C:\users\drogers\rdminstall.log". Says this is not a valid installer.
Do I need to try running the installer as an Administrator?
Hello,
In that case, would it be possible for you to try to install RDM Free as a portable version and see if this issue still occurs?
To do so, you will need to do the following:
1- Download the .zip file below:
https://remotedesktopmanager.com/home/thankyou/rdmfreebin
2- Create a new folder on your Desktop
3- Extract the content of the .zip file into the folder created at #2
4- Go in this folder once the .zip file has been extracted and run the executable
5- Enter your current serial
