What is the difference between the Session tool and Application tool add-ons?

For example I see the SQL Server Management Studio has both an application tool add-on as well as a session tool add-on.

Hello,

The add-ons in the Session category enable entry types, that can then be created from Edit > New Entry. Comparatively, the Tool add-ons can be accessed under Tools > More Tools to launch different applications, most of which are generally outside of RDM. Let me know if you have additional questions!
