DPI scaling vs RDP Windows Server 2016

Hi there,

I'm new to Remote Desktop Manager. I've seen the many topics about DPI scaling but could not find an answer to the problem the way I'm facing it.

Here's a bit of history:
I come from Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager 2.7 but was looking for something better. At work, we use Royal TS, which is similar to Devolutions Remote Desktop Manager, but lacking a feature that I really need, and Devolutions RDM has it: the ability to put the navigation bar in its own tab, so I can have the full width of the screen for remote desktop estate, yet be able to quickly launch access to another server. So Great! thumbs up for Devolutions RDM.

On my home pc, I have a 27" Dell display, running natively at 2560x1440. My server at home, running Windows Server 2016, I connect to it using a custom desktop resolution of: 1916 x 1114 so I can connect to it from work in a 1920x1200 window without having scrollbars, and have the same view at home. Until I switched to Devolutions RDM, all worked perfectly this way.

Because of the big resolution on my monitor, I've set the DPI to 125% so that all text is readable in windows. At work, I have DPI set to 100%, so all works correctly there regardless, but when I connect from home to my server, the 125% DPI scaling is also sent to the server, and as such, my server environment now has less usable pixels, because things become much larger. 125% larger to be exact.

I can disable DPI scaling in the settings of the program, but the 125% is still being applied, it is now applied everywhere. As a result, the remote desktop no longer fits on the screen and thus, I have to apply smart sizing, which makes the remote content blurry as it is sizing it down by about 3%.

If I disable DPI in windows, everything is great, except that now my font is too small, and in Windows, the setting to increase font size was removed because DPI is supposedly the answer.

How can I make sure that the DPI setting of my windows will not affect the RDP connection at all? I was considering to make a change on my server, but unfortunately, my server is not the only place I RDP into, so that's not really an option. Neither is changing the DPI every time I want to connect to my server.

Thanks in advance. :)

Alright, I figured it out.

I somehow missed the option discussed here: https://forum.devolutions.net/topics/27958/disable-scaling-on-rdp-session

But I now got it working.

So there are 2 settings that you need to enable.

File Settings User Interface Disable scaling on High DPI
File Settings Type RDP Disable RDP scale factor (HDPI)

Both settings ask you to restart the program. You can do that once after changing both settings obviously.

Yay, I'm so happy right now. Devolutions RDM is really good!

The newest update screws with many settings, the above one included... :( Its almost like I got a profile reset.

Disregard this... its simply broken... setting stuff as it should be no longer makes DPI work... :'(

Hello,

Would you be able to send a screenshot of what it looks like?
Could you also confirm your Remote Desktop Manager version?

Well, I went back to 2020.1.20.0 because I really don't have the time to get into this, and my settings were still gone, but at least after a bit of reconfiguring, I got it somewhat the same as before. Still haven't found the setting to stop asking me to reconnect to previously connected servers which sucks, but I'll look at that this weekend, when I have more time.

Given I'm not in the newest version anymore, I can't really do anything...

Hello,

What type of datasource are you using?

How can I see that?

Also, I'm willing to update my software once more if you can tell me how I can guarantee to not lose my settings a second time...
