I'm increasingly needing to easily remote into VMs using the SPICE protocol. Support for this in RDM would be great.
https://www.spice-space.org/
Easy to set up a Proxmox host to create VMs using the SPICE protocol for testing.
Hello,
If they have a command line that we could invoke we could do an integration but if we have to implement the protocol, I doubt that we will do it since the source code is GNU GPLv2 and we have a commercial product.

Hi,
actually Virt-Viewer for Windows would be the best idea in my opinion.
Can be downloaded here: https://virt-manager.org/download/
It supports SPICE and VNC. Example for SPICE would be:
"C:\Program Files\VirtViewer v9.0-256\bin\remote-viewer.exe" --spice-preferred-compression=auto-glz --spice-disable-usbredir spice://<SERVER>:<PORT>

Hello,
Thank you for providing the command line, we will open a ticket to make an add-on for virt-viewer.

Has there been any movement on this? Adding SPICE support via remote-viewer.exe would be great. @Hubert, are you able to post the ticket number here so we can follow progress?
Hello,
You can use the command line session type to include it even without an official integration.

Hi David, yes since I posted I got SPICE connections working using command line session type, but only in external\undocked mode, not embedded (tabbed). When trying embed, only a small portion of the remote-viewer.exe window appears and is read-only, so there's some problem with the GUI interaction between that and RDM:
I've tried adding remote-viewer.exe to the "Process name" box and increasing "Embedded wait time" to no avail.

For now using the command line entry is the workaround while we have no add-on for it. Keep in mind that it's possible we won't be able to embed virt-viewer in RDM anyway, since not all applications are able to be embedded this way.
We will update this thread once we have made progress on the add-on.

Still no support?
Hello,
Nothing new for now. We had originally wanted to investigate about implementing virt-viewer to support this, but we encountered issues and the project was dropped.
What program do you currently use to connect to machines with the SPICE protocol?

Hubert Mireault
Integration for Proxmox that uses SPICE. So it would be really nice.
I know this is marked as resolved but is there any chance this is something that could be looked into once again?
With more users moving away from VMWare and a lot of homelabs making use of proxmox.
I am surprised I have come across an intergration missing from the swiss army tool of IT that is RDM :)
Thanks
Iain

Hello,
We've just added the Proxmox console to start and stop your virtual machines. It's in preview mode, and the next logical step is the connection. We plan to use the noVNC connection and not SPICE. This is still a work in progress.

David Hervieux
Thanks David, that is great news!
Will now go hunting for that proxmox console and look for to the noVNC.
Thanks
Iain
