Hi all,
At my work, we use Solarwinds Ncentral to remote onto client servers. One of the ways to remote onto the client server is using RDP, but the RDP isn't the typical RDP file (.rdp). Instead, it creates a .JNLP file (Java Web Start) and uses javaws.exe to open it. For more info, please see this link here:

So the issue is, because the file type is not .RDP, it doesn't associate with RDM. If you try to open the .JNLP file with RDM, it won't work either, because it requires Java Web Start to open it and create the RDP session.
In RDM, I can see that there is a "Java Web Start" addon and I have installed it. However, I don't know how to make RDM open the RDP session created by Java Web Start.
Another thing is that the .JNLP file generated is not static. It is only valid for connection within 1~2 minutes and after that point, you'll have to go back to Solarwinds Ncentral and generate a new Remote Desktop session for the client server that you want to connect to.

I'm always using the latest beta RDM x64 version.

Hi,
As I understand the problem is that the file cannot be read natively by RDM and that this same file is valid only for a short time. Is Ncentral have any API that we can create the file before opening a session? If we RDM have a PowerShell integration that can be run prior to run a session.
So we can use this PowerShell command to create the file and then start this valid .jnlp file with RDM.

Hi,
sounds interessting for me as well... we also here have a lot of such usecases (Brocade FiberChannel Switches, Solarwinds, etc.).
How such a powershell command can look like and be used?
...and NO -> i have no big powershell skills ;-)
Br,
Kasi
I don't know if there are any APIs for Solarwinds NCentral, but even if there are, I don't have enough permissions/privilege to make any changes to our Solarwinds setup...
I've also tried editing the .JNLP file to open with RDM and it just opens RDM but not launch any RDP session...

@Kasi, The PowerShell options are available in a session under the Events section and then Before Connect select PowerShell.
@chaoscreater, Sadly we do not have a Solarwinds infrastructure too, so we can't find the way to do it.
If anybody knows how to retrieve a .jnlp file through an API it will be a pleasure for us to help to integrate it in RDM if it's possible.
