Configure RDM to connect to local VM using local VM credential (not Azure)

Is it possible to configure an RDM connection session to a Windows 10 local VM using a non-Azure local user credential on the VM? I have been trying to get this to work, but it keeps failing. Tells me my credentials (username/password) were not correct and I have to manually type in .\<username> to make it logon each time.
