Why not use the standard dynamic credential linking
Thoughts on why this feature would benefit users of RDM
A user based dynamic credential link would be really useful for removing friction in the process plus the link can be set in the user specific settings just without the user needing to do that themselves.
With this feature it would be very easy on day one for a company to create a single credential entry to their password manager and have all connections using it where each user can than, over time, define the credential to use for each session they connect to in a very natural way.
Hello,
Have you considered or tried the Private Vault Search method for credential entry?
In a few words, in the shared Vault, instead of forcing al users to edit their User Specific Settings, simply input Private Vault Search and enter the Private Vault entry name for their credential entry in the Private Vault.
The only thing they'll have to do is make sure they have a Private Vault Credential Entry with the name you specified in the Search Field and that their Global Availability is set to "Available".
I hope this helps, let me know if I overlooked something.

Hmmm, that approach seems similar and subject to the same drawbacks as the "By Name" lookup mode i mentioned in Current methods of achieving this that are less than ideal
Because I can make a by name lookup to find a cred named abc-%username% in the password manager and then force all users to make a cred named that way in the password manager.
So essentially the private vault probably works but than you need to tell each user they need to make a cred entry in their private vault or script that creation but the proposed feature would remove the need for setting up any automation and be more a more natural way of handling things in my opinion as the user simply gets the list of password manager entries and than once the user selects the correct entry RDM remembers which entry that user chose and uses it next time for that session.
Also keep in mind in my case i cannot be storing passwords in RDM itself, for compliance reasons we have a password manager and that is where any credentials must be stored.

Hello,
We will add this to our todo list. What password manager do you use by the way?
