make session properties mandatory

It would be nice if you can select particular fields to be mandatory before RDM will let you add the entry.
For example, on an RDP entry we would like to require the following information before a technician could successfully add an entry.
General -> Name (already mandatory in RDM)
General -> Host (already mandatory in RDM)
More -> Description (not just mandatory, but ability to enforce length like require more than 5 or more than 10 characters)
Information -> Host
Information -> IP
Information -> MAC

But if you're going through the trouble.. it would be nice to be able to check a box next to each field on any of these tabs and make them mandatory. That way each organization can select which fields they want or don't want.

Hello,
I will add this to our todo list. We will have to think how we could do that and keep the UI simple. Perhaps we could add some rules instead of using the checkbox everywhere.

The checkboxes seem logical. But maybe only make them appear if you are editing a template, or the default entry properties. That way, most people will never see them.

Or, when editing templates / default entries you can have a separate button that says something like 'edit mandatory fields' and then you can have a list of fields that you can move to the left or right and make them mandatory or not.

Here are some ideas. (attached)

in the mean time, is there any database flag we can set to make particular fields required temporarily while you guys work on this?
the first 2 fields mentioned (name and host) are already mandatory so there is already some kind of check somewhere to make sure those fields have values, is there anything we can hack together in the interim?

Unfortunately nothing for now.

any updates on this request?

Hello,
It still on our todo list. I have increased the priority since we have released RDM 2020.2 and we can start to organize the next update.

Hello,

This feature has been implemented and will be available with the 2020.3 update.

Mandatory properties will be configurable in the template settings.

For now, they will only be enforced at the entry creation. A user could go back to edit the entry and clear those properties.

Also, only the 4 properties you mentioned are available at the moment, but we will add more if there are requests for others.

Hello, it would be nice if some other fields also can be configured as mandatory property in a template:

  • Name (to configure a minimum length)
  • Username
  • Password
  • Version (Asset)
  • Home page (Management Tools)
  • Tags (maybe require a minimum tags)

This can be helpful to add needed information when adding an entry via template.

Hello,

We will be looking into adding these when we can. I've opened a ticket.

Hi,

We have added several new fields internally. They should be available starting with version 2022.2.0.0
As of now we chose not to add the "username" and "password" fields since they are harder to implement, but we will consider them for future updates.
