WINSCP Key Auth Failure

Evening,
I'm having an issue where I'm unable to make any changes after connecting to a server with WINSCP within Remote Desktop Manager. It works fine for my boss (he created the entry and added the key), but not for me or my co-worker. I am able to connect and browse, as well as read, but the issue comes up if I try to change something. Screenshot of error below.

Hello,
Does it work if you use WinSCP outside of RDM?

Yes, if I do it from WINSCP standalone, it works.

Hello,

We will open a ticket to try and reproduce the issue. We have an idea what it might be but nothing for certain.

Hi,

Looking at the error real quick the path seems to be leading to a specific user folder and is unable to open the file.

If your boss created the entry and gave a path to a file that is on his computer, and you are trying to launch the same entry it wont be able to find the file from a different computer.

If you can confirm this isn't the issue I'll keep investigating.

The key is being stored within RDM, as Private Key type: Data.

Hi,

I am not reproducing the issue, after multiple different attempt, I somewhat had your message but I only recieved it when I pasted the data from a .RSA file instead of a .ppk.

I used the WinSCP converting tool to convert that RSA key to PPK when I tried to use it on the external WinSCP app, It worked. I was expecting to get the same issue like you when I pasted that PPK data from the converted file in the entry data section, but everything went fine.

My ppk converted file working starting text looks like this.

PuTTY-User-Key-File-2: ssh-rsa
Encryption: aes256-cbc
Comment: imported-openssh-key
Public-Lines: 6

As opposed to the none working key as rsa
-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
Proc-Type: 4,ENCRYPTED
DEK-Info: AES-128-CBC,5993E064A89F11BB5C9F7B61121631F2

That's all the info I was able to gather on the possible issue for now, I hope it helps to resolve your issue, if not I will conduct further test.

Best Regards,

Alexandre Roy
