Short Cut keys not working

Disabled

Dumb question, running free version 2019.14.41.0 64 bit at home, and none of the keyboard short cuts appear to be working?
Not sure if I haven't enabled them or if I have disabled them somehow??

Have tried closing and opening as administrator and no luck!

Hello,

Are you trying to use your keyboard shortcut on your Remote Host or you are using them in RDM directly?

RDM directly, for example CTRL+D for duplicate does nothing :(

avatar

Hello,

can you please try to Restore defaults in the section File => Options => User Interface => Keyboard ?

Min

Thanks, done that then closed and reopened.. still unable to get short cuts to work.

I have also checked that other applications work and its not a PC or keyboard issue, but its just RDM that appears to be the issue.

avatar

Ok, just to be sure - you've no open connections and the focus is in the navigation tree?
Ctrl + D for session duplicate doesnt work?

Can you try to En / Disable the Grab Input feature?

Min

Hi, correct.
Zero shorts work.
Followed your steps for the Grab input with it enabled and disabled, no change.

Hello,

This is very strange. Could you try the steps below to reset your configuration file:

This will create you a new configuration. Hope this will help you resolve your issue.

Hello,

This is very strange.

The keyboard shortcuts works in Outlook right?

Do you encounter the same issue in RDM Enterprise 2019.2.6.0?

I have the enterprise version on my work PC, just checked on there and I appear to have the same issue. I know it worked here in the past, but now when I try to duplicate using ctrl+D nothing happens. Tested short cuts in outlook and they work without issue.

This is a separate install but they share a data source in common.

I also have a laptop which has the free version 2019.1.41.0 64 bit, this also connects to the same data source and does NOT have the issue it.

Hello,

If you create a new datasource (SQLite or XML), do you encounter the same issue?

I appear to be facing this exact issue, after a recent application update.

I have tried to reset the keyboard settings to default and this did not resolve.

Running 2024.1.30.0 64-bit

same issue ,None of the shortcut work.

avatar

@akabenlama,

What version of RDM are your running?

Could you elaborate on the shortcut issue ? What are you trying to accomplish exactly?

Following as I have always had issue with short cut keys.
I am on 2024.3.15.0 with a SQL datasource.

An example Control+D should duplicate a session. However, I have never had it do anything.

Checked my settings and Shortcut overlay is set to All. I have reset shortcuts to default settings but have never managed to get them working.

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for your replies,

That is indeed odd, both of you have had the issue across multiple versions is that correct?

Can you confirm that the "Grab Keyboard input" option in the bottom right corner is enabled? Is it a small magnet icon.

Let me know,

Best regards,

It turns out that following the latest update I can now use the enter key top open session(s) again... Worth noting that I did not have the magnet icon highlighted as pointed out when this worked, however when switching that function on, I can now use the remaining shortcut keys!

Hello,

Just tested the "grab input" was toggled and still none of the short cuts worked.

Randomly just had a thought, try it with the Navigation menu docked (I always have it as a separate window).

Shortcuts work (with grab input enabled).. set navigation to floating window.. stop working.

So explains why I have never been able to get them working.. you need the navigation window pinned to main window.

Thanks

Hello Iain,

Thank you for your reply,

I'm glad to hear this is now working for you,

I've been able to reproduce the behavior you describe with the shortcuts not working while the Navigation Pane is unpinned, I'm unsure currently if this is the expected behavior.

I will keep you updated with any news I have regarding this,

So awesome most of the shorts work.
I still have issues launching sessions, pressing enter does not work (nor does shift+enter or ctrl+enter). I have to go and click the open session icon.

Thanks

Very odd, on version .19 now and after a reboot keys "enter" is now launching a session!

Appears this was short lived.
Logging on this morning and I noticed with the Navigation menu un-docked pressing enter does not launch the sessions.
Once I dock the navigation bar it start working again while docked but stops if I un-dock it.

I have tried toggling the "Grab keyboard input" option, re-launching RDM and a reboot.

Not sure what is different today that has caused them to stop working.

Thanks

Having to revert to having the navigation pinned to the side now.

Hello Iain,

Thank you for your reply,

I've been unable to reproduce the issue, on my end, the shortcuts are still working as expected even while the Navigation Pane is undocked with RDM version 2024.3.20.0.

Would it be possible for you to create a portable installation of the latest version of RDM and see if this issue still occurs? To do so, you will need to do the following:

1- Download the .zip file below:
https://remotedesktopmanager.com/home/thankyou/rdmbin
2- Create a new folder on your Desktop
3- Extract the content of the .zip file into the folder created at #2
4- Go to this folder once the .zip file has been extracted and run remotedesktopmanager.exe
5- Connect to your data source

Let me know,

I would like to perform a remote session with you regarding this issue. Would this be something you are interested in?

If so, I will need to open a case. Should I use the email associated with your account? If not, I can send you a private message so that you can provide me with the correct email.

Hi Sam,

Assuming you didn't the DM I sent?
Happy to have a remote session, please use my account email address and I will look out for it.

I have updated .21 and can move around with the navigation keys in the navigation pain when un-docked. Still can't launch a session though.

Thanks
