I'm going to be installing Remote Desktop Manager and Devolutions Password Server in my environment. I'm using SQL 2017 in the backend, so I know I'll be pointing DPS to that.
My question is does it make sense to put RDM and DPS on the same server, or should I split them up?
Also, we have a split Datacenter environment, and rather then have a complex environment with multiple servers in each DC, I would rather just make sure I have solid backups of RDM and DPS so in the event of a issue I could rebuild the RDM/DPS environment pretty quickly. Is there documentation on how to backup and recover those?
Thanks,
Mark
Hello,
You should deploy RDM on a different machine then the one on which DPS will be hosted as RDM is consuming more resources and could impact the DPS overall performances. And we are not recommending to install the client software on the same machine as the server software for security matters.
About restoring DPS, you can follow the instructions on this page.
https://helpserver.devolutions.net/kb_backup.htm
About restoring RDM, if you run it in a RDS environment, you can create and backup the default.cgf file that contains the default configuration. Please see this help topic for more information.
