Logging sessions via jumphost

Logging sessions via jumphost

avatar

I have automatic logging setup for my ssh sessions, but it doesn't work when connecting via jumphost. I've confirmed the configuration is correct because it works when I make a direct RDM connection from the jumphost.

Is this something that is not supported or is there a trick to get it working?

Hello John,

Which version of RDM are you using on your computer and which version is installed on the jump server? We recommend using the same version.

I've upgraded both versions to 2019.1.25.0 for Windows and it's still not logging. Is this supposed to work?

Hi,

Thanks for the information, could you give me more information about the SSH configuration. Are you using a standard Username/Password to connect to the server or any other authentication method (Private key, Interactive in terminal...)?

Also, could you perform a test by enabling, one computer at the time (your computer and test, Jump server and your computer and test) the Legacy Terminal under File > Options > Type > Terminal > Advanced.

I am connecting via Secret Server API credentials. There is no issue connecting to the server with the credentials.

The automatic log file is created if I launch RDM directly from the jumphost, but does not when I connect via RDM agent through the jumphost from my machine.

I tried your test by enabling Legacy Terminal on my computer and testing and then enabling on the jumphost as well and testing, but the results are the same and no log file is created.

I'm currently doing it via the RDP jumphost option. Should I set it up using the SSH Gateway (Jump Host) instead? I'm not sure what the difference is.

Hi John,

SSH Gateway (Jump Host) option is when jumping with an SSH Server.

That being said, I open a ticket with your information and I think doing a remote session will be the best. You will receive shortly an email with further instruction.

Hello John,

Thanks again for your time today, as we found the issue was related to the variable used in the session log path. RDM resolve variables before going on the jump server. So when RDM try to save the log files on the jump server he didn't find the path and wasn't able to save any logs.
