Hello..
I would like to learn something new and in the process hopefully secure a connection to a Azure hosted SQL server and SQL Data store for Remote Desktop Manager.
We recently setup and Azure SQL server for the means of having some of the apps we provide to be "always available"
We use Remote Desktop Manager to connect to our customers and I was tasked with setting up our data store on the new Azure SQL server and to allow our staff access from anywhere - Yup the internet.
I am not crazy enough to simply open port 1433 to the SQL Server over the internet.
So is there a solution or help or a "Schooling" moment someone can provide me in which I can have some form of proxy in between the Azure SQL hosted data source and the internet?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Izak
Hello,
I cannot recommend publishing SQL server directly over the internet, even with secured connection, exotic port or any other "basic" configuration.
But in our latest beta version of RDM 2019.1.14, a new feature is available to connect to a VPN before connecting to a data source. This might be the solution you are looking for.
You can download 2019.1.14 here and test the VPN feature. I do not know which VPN products is required on Azure side but if it works in RDM it should work in our new feature.
This feature is still in beta, but if you have any issue it will be a pleasure to help you.
Best regards,
David Grandolfo
