Configuring terminal emulation

Configuring terminal emulation

avatar

Hi all,

We're brand new to RDM Enterprise, and loving it so far.

Our issue though is with configuring terminal types for our SSH connections. Most of our work is done via SSH to Linux boxes, so getting this right is very important to us.

If we use PuTTY/SuperPuTTY/Termius to connect to our linux boxes, it looks fine without having to fiddle with any settings, but when SSHing from RDM, some SSH screens are all over the place (see attachment) and unusable.

I've tried 'Options... Types... SSH/Telnet (Rebex)' and 'Options... Types... Terminal' settings but nothing seems to improve the display.

Can someone please give us some pointers on how to fix SSH terminal display issues?

Thank you.

Hello,

Which version of RDM are you testing with?

If you are not on a team data source, you can test RDM Beta 2019.1.13. We use our own SSH integration which should not (reduce) this kind of issue.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

We are using the team data source (we just very recently purchased 4 licenses after being so impressed with it). Current version (14.1.3.0 64-bit).

The weird thing is that if I exit the ASCII application (but not the actual SSH session) and re-run the ASCII application, the terminal corrects itself. This happens every time so far. It's as though RDM doesn't apply the correct terminal settings at first? Don't know. It doesn't make much sense to me.

This is definitely a problem with RDM (or it's terminal/PuTTY implementation), as, as mentioned before, we have run this app for ~10 years on PuTTY/SuperPutty/Termius without a problem.

Hi,

Could you install a portable version of Remote Desktop Manager 2019.1.13 (download link).

Without connecting RDM to your data source, just create an SSH Shell entry. Please confirm if the issue is the same with the latest version.

As mentioned this version have major improvement for SSH connection.

Best regards,

Hi David,

I have just tried the latest portable Beta version and can confirm the screens appear to build properly in this newer version.

We are now in anticipation of the final release :D :D :)
