Passportal credential not working for RDP

Passportal credential not working for RDP

avatar

I was excited to see I could use a Passportal entry but it doesn't work when trying to use that for RDP, which is 99% of what we use in RDM. I searched online help but no results come up when searching "passportal"... the index definitely needs to be fixed.

I found Passportal manually in the online help but there's really no information there about how passwords pulled from Passportal can be used.

When I connect to a machine via RDP and where a Passportal account is selected the computer shows properly which account I'm trying to use but does not have a password populated.

Using RDM 14.1.3.0.

Hello,

If you select your PassPortal entry in the Navigation Pane and press the Copy Username in the Dashboard, are you able to copy the username or you are prompted with a list?

Are you able to copy the password?

I can copy the username, but if I try to copy the password RDM says "Nothing to copy to the clipboard".

Hello,

Which type of entry have you created in PassPortal? Could you post a screenshot?

I've created a "Domain Administrator" credential type in PassPortal, though I don't think those credential types actually mean anything other than a way to classify or tag a credential type. Hesitant to post a screenshot... not sure what you'd be able to see that helps besides the credential type tag.

Hello,

I had a chat with our QA department and we have a few questions for you:

1. Not sure what you mean by "user specific settings". In RDM, in the credential entry, we're using Custom for the host (not sure what "Default" means; that should be better documented) and we have to enter a username and password, and organizational passphrase to access Passportal to begin with. Then we have to choose the 3 dots and select the Passportal entry that we want for the RDM entry, so we select the domain administrator.
2. I'm not sure what other session type we would use for the domain administrator in our usage, being we use 99% RDP in RDM. When we use ConnectWise Control with the Passportal add-in, this domain administrator entry works just fine there, passing through the credentials to the computer/server.
3. I'll do that and put my name in the video file name.

Hello,

If you are not aware of the User Specific Settings feature, you probably don't use it.

With your last post, what I understand, is that you are able to establish the connection using ConnectWise, but not RDP. Am I correct?
If it's the case, then, maybe it's the username format used in your RDP session that is blocking you from using PassPortal.
In your RDP session, go in the Advanced section and select another username format like Username@domain or domain/Username to see if that help.

I can use ConnectWise Control (ScreenConnect) completely separate of RDM, but using the Passportal credential integration in CW Control, so the credential as it stands works with CW Control.

It just doesn't work when using it for RDP in RDM.

And we do have it already set up as domain\username format in Passportal.

Sorry, haven't had time yet to make a video.

Regarding changing the username format... that's disabled. In an RDP session when you select a credential (Credential repository, then the Passportal credential, or a regular Windows admin credential that we have) the Username/Domain/Password fields are greyed out. I would post a screenshot in here but it looks like I can't just paste one in.

Hello,

The username format feature is located in the Advanced section of the session

Oh, interesting. I'll check that out.

OK, tried all options there, still failing. Uploaded a video.
