RDM authentication doesn't retrieve user's permissions

RDM authentication doesn't retrieve user's permissions

avatar

Hello,

So, I've been having a problem with RDM authentication.
Some users complain that in the first log-in (and sometimes more often) the folders that they have permissions to doesn't appear.

Everything in the DC is ok. It's only in the first attempts of authentication that this problem occurs. After some attempts it retrieve the information and everything works fine.

How can i troubleshoot this problem and resolve it ?

Thanks in advance...

Hello,

What RDM version are you using?

What data source type are you connected to? If it is Devolutions Password Server, what version are you using?

Hi Erica,

Thanks for the reply.
Currently RDM is in version 14.1.1.0 and DPS is in version 6.1.0.0.

Hello,

Thank you for the information.

This is a known issue with DPS and it has been resolved internally. We should release a new RDM and DPS version soon that will contain the fix for that issue.

Are you using repositories that are assigned to roles (AD groups)?
If so, you can try this workaround when you switch from one repository to another one :
1- Switch to the desired repository.
2- Go in Files - Data Sources.
3- Click on the OK button.

It will authenticate your account on your DPS data source and should load all entries in the Navigation pane.

Hello Erica,

Thanks a lot Erica for the information and the workaround. That is the process i've been telling the users to do.

I'll wait for the new release to test it and i'll give you my feedback.

Hello,

Devolutions Password Server version 6.1.3 is now available for download. This version contains the fix for the AD integration issue. For customers who use Remote Desktop Manager, we recommend to use the latest RDM version 14.1.3.

We strongly recommend following the instructions on this online help page: Upgrading Devolutions Password Server
We also offer free remote session to assist you during the upgrade process of your DPS instance. If you would like to book a session, please send an email to ticket@devolutions.net and we will send you our online calendar.

Hello Erica,

Thanks for the update information.
We made the update yesterday and i've already done my tests:

1) Authentication - Our DPS is configured to authenticate by Domain Authentication.
By default RDM is configured to use windows authentication.
Both ways of authentication (username/password and Windows authentication) works fine within premises.
When i try authenticate out of office (e.g. home) only username/password works, Windows authentication shows an error saying 401: Unauthorized (My windows authentication is the same as i use at the office)

2) 1st Login - Although performance remains the same (takes 1-2 minutes to authenticate), no problem with loading permissions, that problem is solved.

3) When adding new permissions to users (add their user to a security group in the AD) it takes a long time on RDM to have access to a folder.
Even if i log off and log in doesn't update the permissions, even going to File->Data sources and reauthenticate.
Only if i change the authentication method (Windows authentication - username/password) it forces to load the data from the AD.

So far, this is my analyzes on the new update.

Thnaks once again Erica and i Hope to ear from you.

Hello,

Thank you for the information.

1) The Windows Authentication is unfortunately unavailable through internet.

2) About performances, many things could impact how long RDM will take to load the entry. It could be related to the number of entries in the Vault or it could be an issue with the data like having duplicated groups. We could assist you during a remote session to troubleshoot this performance problem. Please send us an email to ticket@devolutions.net and we will book an appointment for a support session.

3) To get all new permissions in the Vault, the user must refresh his local cache file with CTRL+F5. Could you please try this and let me know if it works?

Best regards,

Hello Erica,

I'm very thankfull for your clarification.

I've already did a performance test environment with assistance from a Devolutions's technician. He said the performance was taking the normal amount of time for the configuration that we have. He explained me the same things you did mention.
About point 3) your resolution definitely works.

Thanks so much for your assistance Erica.
