Focus taken by RDP session when trying to type in Quick Connect field
Hey guys,
Wondering if you could take a look at this issue.
When I have an embedded RDP session open (any number of them), if I click on the Quick Connect field and start typing, after a few characters the RDP session will take focus and I'll be typing on the RDP machine instead of in the Quick Connect field.
Is there any way to prevent the Quick Connect field from having focus taken by the RDP session?
I use Quick Connect quite often to launch VNC sessions.
Thanks guys
Regards,
Justin
Hi Justin,
which version do you use?

Hi,
I'm using the latest update 5.0.2.0 64-bit of Remote Desktop Manager Free.
This has been an issue for probably the entire time I've been using RDM Free though.
I keep hoping it'll be fixed each time I update.
Regards,
Justin
I tried to reproduce this. Do you see this problem when you click on another tab entry type like a VNC? Is it only when RDP is focused?

Hey,
After posting, I continued using RDM.
I noticed, if I click on the "Quick Connect" field, and start typing, while no RDP session is active or focused, it will sometimes move to the navigation bar and stop typing in Quick Connect. Then when I hit RETURN it will try to open one of the sessions in my navigation bar.
It looks like it happens when Remote Desktop Manager gains focus.
So, if I click on say my Google Chrome window, and then click back to RDM directly into the Quick Connect field (triple monitor setup) it sends the focus to the RDP session. After that, if I just click on Quick Connect again, it stays in focus.
Is this making sense?
Steps to recreate:
1. RDM running - Open an RDP session
2. On a second monitor, open Google Chrome and visit a website
3. Move the cursor back to monitor #1 and click directly onto the "Quick Connect" field
4. The typing cursor will blink once or twice in Quick Connect and will then stop
5. Try typing, and it will be typing in the RDP session
6. Click back on Quick Connect, and it will keep focus
I've managed to screen-record a video, and posted it to YouTube.
Set the quality to 1080p.
Sorry if it's a crappy recording, I just tried to capture what was happening.

You can see in it, I click on the quick support bar after being in Chrome, and before I start typing the focus is pulled to the RDP session.

Could you try to change the Uncheck the setting in File->Options --> "Focus content on application activation"?

That's done it!
Thanks so much.
I tried searching the settings screen for everything I could think of.
There's so many settings and different menus, I must have missed that one.
This is gonna make my life so much easier now.
Cheers,
Justin
This sounds like a bug to me but now you have a workaround.

I wouldn't say it was a bug, since that setting check box describes exactly what I was experiencing.
When I would bring RDM back into focus, it would automatically take me to the existing RDP session.
Either way, thanks for the help!
So far I've had awesome assistance from you guys on these forums.
Such an awesome tool, especially on IT Helpdesk support.
Keep it up guys.
