Is there a way to import all the servers/settings from the .rdm file that I exported out of the RDM on my desktop to the iOS mobile app version? If so, how do I do it? Thank you.
I have tried this tutorial: https://helpios.remotedesktopmanager.com/index.html?howto_importxmldatasource.htm. However, I do not see the Import option in step six. I have also tried this tutorial, https://helpios.remotedesktopmanager.com/index.html?howto_importdatasource.htm, but looks like this tutorial is only for online hosted database, I think.
Hello,
It's not possible to import a .rdm file into a local data source on your iOS device.
I would recommend, if you are a single user, using our Devolutions Online Drive data source instread.
https://helpcloud.devolutions.net/dod_introduction.htm
This will allow you to have all your sessions sync between your devices. The only requirement, it's to have an internet connection.
Please note that this type of data source is free.

Thank you for the response. So, what's the reason for not able to use .rdm or .xml? Is it because I'm using a free version? If I create/use the Devolutions Online Drive data source, are all my credentials/settings store on Devolution's server?
Hello,
By using a Devolutions Online Drive Data source, all of your entries will be saved in your Devolutions Cloud Account. Meaning that you will have access to these entries on each devices that have RDM installed and that are connect to your Devolutions Online Drive Data Source. Although it is important to keep in mind that this is a single-user Data Source and that these entries can't be shared with other users.
For more information on that topic, I recommend that you consult the following link:

So, at this point regardless if it's a paid version or not, there is no way to import the .xml or .rdm from my desktop settings into the mobile app version, correct?
Hello,
Indeed, it's not possible to import .rdm into a local data source on your iOS, and as a support tech, I don't understand why you will do this.
Let me explain. When you will add a new entry or edit one or delete one in RDM Windows, the sync will not be made with the iOS version. So you would need to export all your entries again, delete the ones on iOS and reimport the again de session. This is not optimal at all from my point of view.
Using Online Drive, you only need an internet connection to get access to your data from anywhere, on any platform.
This is why we proposed you this solution.
This solution works using the Free Edition or the Enterprise Edition of RDM.

Jeff Dagenais
Thanks, Jefff, for the help. Perhaps, I'm not explaining myself correctly or not using the RDM the way it is meant to be used. At the moment I've mainly setup RDM for remote desktop connection to another VM or server. So, I've setup all my settings, credentials, servers in the RDM free Mac version. So, instead of exporting these settings in my RDM desktop MacBook Pro and import all that settings into my iPad or iPhone, I have to go through the same exact steps on the iOS device to have the same exact settings and credentials? That just seems a lot of duplication and tedious tasks.
One of the main concern about using the cloud or online version is security. No matter how tight a company's security vault is, there is a possibility it can be breached. No company can guaranteed 100% secure. So, the less place these credentials are stored in other places, the less chance of it being compromised.
Hello,
This is why we recommend Online Drive in your case, to easily share your connections between our platforms.
Please note that you can encrypt the content of your online drive file hosted on our servers by going in File -> Change MasterKey. Then, all the information's will be encrypted if the file is stolen.
I would also recommend to enable the always ask for password option in your data source configuration.
If you don't want to use a cloud data source, you would need to use a local one like XML or SQLite and import the settings on all your devices everytime you would need to use them.
There's also Dropbox that can be used. Dropbox store a XML file on their servers, so yes, it's a XML file, but it's style could based.
If you want a local database, but that you want all the information's centralize for all your devices, you would need to use an advanced data source like SQL Server, MariaDB or MySQL. However, you would need to use RDM Enterprise Edition to be able to use this type of data source.

Again, thank you so much for the explanation. That is good know in regard to store in our own SQL Server, MariaDB, or MySQL as an alternatives. As for the Dropbox option, I assumed RDM will use the xml file hosted on Dropbox instead of importing the settings in the xml file and then I can remove the xml file from Dropbox, correct?
Hello,
Indeed, RDM will use the XML saved on dropbox. All your platforms will connect on the same XML stored in dropbox in your specific scenario.

Thank you!
