Hi All,

This product sounded so promising, but so far I have zero joy.

1. I have RealVNC installed on our PCs, set to 'Windows Authentication'. When I try and connect using UltraVNC/Default in Embedded mode, I get a 'No supported authentication methods!' error. In the RealVNC logs it says 'SConnection: Client needs protocol version 3.8'.

2. In the Help, it says I can go into the Properties of a session, and there should be a Tools submenu where I can configure Intel AMT. For me, everything under 'Information' is missing (I don't have Jump Host, Events, Sub Connections, Attachments, Todos, Logs, Tools). So how to I set up AMT for a particular Session?

3. I have a VMWare vSphere Windows Server that links to my 3 ESXis. How do I add this? Or do I have to link to each ESXi separately? When I link to ESXi, it uses PowerCLI to pull up a dashboard? For each of the VMs, do I have to manually create a 'VMware Remote Console'? It would be good to just point at the VMware Server, or even the ESXi and have all consoles available to me.

4. I tried adding a 'VMware Remote Console', but when I click Open Session nothing happens. I even checked the VM ID by going to https://<ESXI IP>/mob/?moid=ha-folder-vm

There will be other issues I'm sure, but I'll start here...

Mike

I have worked out questions 3 and 4.

Once I installed VMWare PowerCLI as per https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/kb_configuringpowercli.htm the VMs appeared and I was able to connect to each in the list using VMRC.

Hello,
About VNC, I'm curious does it work if you use the UltraVNC client directly and not the one in RDM? I'm asking the question because RealVNC is no longer open source and they have added a lot of proprietary extension to the protocol. Unfortunately it's not easy for us to implement without the specification.

For the todo, log and subconnection, what data source type do you use and is it RDM Free or Enterprise?

Hi,

I'm slowly getting there. I get the same error when I use the UltraVNC client directly. I actually have never used UltraVNC, and have just developed a method to deploy the server side application remotely.

So it's unlikely you'd be able to work out why UltraVNC isn't working with RealVNC then?

I am using RDM Free. I just noticed the Intel AMT brings up a 'support is only available in the Enterprise edition'. It's a shame - this is why I decided to try RDM, and the comparison of features mentions nothing about any missing features/addons - only that the collaboration/shared data source is missing.

However, the price point for a single user is pretty reasonable, so I may try the Enterprise trial, and buy a 1 seat license. We are only a 3 man team, so I assume if we buy 3 single user licenses we can use the collaboration/data source features?

Hello,

Regarding the licensing of RDM Enterprise, indeed, the license are calculated per users, so in your case, you would need 3 individual licenses and this will allow you to use the Enterprise Edition of RDM for your 3 users and use a centralized database to share your data.

For the list of supported data sources, please consult https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/datasources_advanced.htm

Michael, stick with it. RDM has a bit of a learning curve. It has a lot of idiosyncrasies (what software doesn't).
Once you get familiar with things its an amazing product.

I made so many support tickets the first 2 weeks after I purchased RDM that support got frustrated with me and concluded that I hated the product. (Not ture), I just found a lot of GUI issues, bugs, and weirdness with the product. But now that all my engineers understand and are familiar with RDM they love it! I takes about 2 weeks of daily use to really get proficient with this product. But once all your stuff is set up, it's amazing.

Yeah, so far so good. I found a bug which doesn't exist in the Free edition, and have raised a ticket.

Just read up on Jump RDM. Wow. Right now we remote desktop to a PC, and from there I open RDM. If I could install RDM on my laptop, and then use RDM Jump........ Wow.
