Remote Desktop Manager Free "stops working" after 4.6.0.0 update on Windows 7 Pro
RDM Free has been working reliably on a fully updated Windows 7 Professional x64 workstation...until the recent 4.6.0.0 update.
It now starts normally, but when attempting to open a Remote Desktop session it accepts the login/password, but immediately pops a
dialog box stating "Remote Desktop Manager Free has stopped working". It purports to investigate, then closes the application.
An event log entry is created; a typical entry:

Suggestions?
Hello,
Since you are running Windows 7, could you make sure that you are running the latest version of Microsoft RDP.
This help article should help
https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/troubleshooting_rdpkeyboardissue.htm
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
Unfortunately, already installed.
Hello,
Could you try the following to see if that help;
Let us know how that works.

Jeff Dagenais
No joy. Tried two approaches--moved the existing Devolutions folder out of the way, started and used cloud registration, then imported the
saved .rdm file (to recover my saved connections.) Same failure.
Purged the Devolutions folder just created, started and used the cloud registration, then created a single Remote Desktop item manually and tried
to connect. Same failure.
Hello,
Could you install back RDM Free 4.5.3.0, which is in 32bit to see if this resolve your issue?
You can download it here
http://cdn2.devolutions.net/download/Setup.RemoteDesktopManagerFree.4.5.3.0.exe
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
Hmm. Reverted to 4.5.3.0 as suggested. I haven't tested all my VPN/client combinations, but tested three sites, multiple targets that
had been failing--and they're working. I'll work my way through all of them (eventually) to test, but initial response is this really is an update
bug.
So when do we decide it's safe to go back in the water?
Thanks,

Hello,
I've sent you a private message regarding this.
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
I thank Jeff Dagenais and Devolutions for figuring out the resolution. It is, in fact, a problem with the migration of the Free version to 64-bit,
and they helped me to resolve the matter (for a year, at least.)
This is the most prompt response I've seen from a vendor for a free version of their product, and confirms my recommendation of Devolutions
to clients and colleagues.
Thanks!
I should point out that for the recommended solution--to move to the Enterprise version--the 64-bit version of the Enterprise version still doesn't
work on Windows 7 Pro. So as it stands, the current version of the 32-bit Enterprise version works; there is no current 32-bit version for the
Free version, so you have to refuse any updates. In a year, I would hope the 64-bit version of both would work; or, I'll have to pay for the Enterprise version, which doesn't give me any features I need in my particular environment, or revert to the current 32-bit Free version and never update.
Again, just FYI--accepted update today for the Enterprise version to 13.6.1.0 (same version for 32- and 64-bit versions). The 64-bit
version still fails on Windows 7 Pro x64, 32-bit still works.
Hello,
As of now, indeed, using the 32bit edition of RDM will be the solution.
Is it possible for you to install RDM on another Windows 7 workstation or a Windows 8 or 10 to see if you encounter the same crashes?
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
