Lastpass integration broken in version 13.5.8

Lastpass integration broken in version 13.5.8

avatar

Hello

When we upgrade to version 13.5.8 the Lastpass integration does not work anymore. It says "An unexpected error has occured. Please check the execution log." Also when we check the Lastpass entry and try to browse the logins, it does not show anything anymore.

When we downgrade to 13.5.6 everything works again.

Best regards.
Patrick

Hello,

In version 13.5.8.0, we would need the following information;

1. Open the profiler (Help -> Profiler) and go in the "debug only" tab and set the debug level to 1. Keeping this window open, try to use the LastPass entry. It should output logs that might help us.

2. Send us the application logs (Help -> View Application logs) after using the Lastpass entry.

You may send all this information to support@devolutions.net or to me via private message.

Hello

As I can't download Version 13.5.8 anymore (it's not on your website anymore) it seems you found out the problems yourself and are fixing them now..?

Best regards.

Hello,

Could you please try RDM Beta version 13.5.11.0 to see if you have the same issue?

Hello Patrick,

I've been in contact with the developer of the LastPass integration we have in RDM. We would need you to send us some information. I will send you a private message on the forum with a custom RDM build and instructions on what we would need you to do to help.

Regards,

Hubert Mireault

Our LastPass integration will be updated in the next RDM version. If it doesn't fix the issue, we'll at least have an easier time finding what's causing it. The code is going to be close to the LastPass CLI, too. Sorry about the inconvenience this is causing.

Thanks Hubert. What will the Version number with the fix be? Beta or not?

Hello,

We just published 13.6.0.0 which is a new stable release that contains the changes. You can download it on our website.

Hello Hubert

Still the same, with this version no list of credentials are displayed anymore and all lastpass credentials are not working anymore.

Hello Patrick,

I would like you to do two things:

1. Can you try out the LastPass CLI? Our code is based on it so it would be very helpful to know if it works or fails for you. Here is the LastPass help link to it. https://helpdesk.lastpass.com/lastpass-command-line-application/

2. Close RDM completely. Then in the options file (RemoteDesktopManager.cfg which is located either in your RDM installation folder or %LOCALAPPDATA%\Devolutions\RemoteDesktopManager), add the following line after the <option> line:
<LastPassIsDesktopMode>false</LastPassIsDesktopMode>Then open RDM and try it again.

Hello Hubert

Just for clarification: Everything is still working correctly in version 13.5.6.

The problem started with version 13.5.8 and the Lastpass integration did not work anymore as a normal repository. It says "An unexpected error has occured. Please check the execution log." Also when we check the Lastpass entry and try to browse the logins, it does not show anything anymore.

In version 13.5.8 you did not use the CLI yet, so the problem must lie somewhere else.

What did you guys change after version 13.5.6 which has broken the implementation?

Best regards.

Hello Patrick,

In 13.5.8 we changed how RDM decrypts the data returned by LastPass when we call its APIs. This was done to fix an issue reported by a few clients where using Shared Folders didn't work.

13.5.6 and prior: The integration is reverse engineered from the mobile LastPass app. This was done in 2013 so it predates the LastPass CLI.
13.5.8: We changed the way the integration decrypts the data sent by LastPass to fix the Shared Folder issue.
13.6.0: We reworked the entire integration to be based on the LastPass CLI's code. We did this because the reverse engineered code wasn't maintainable in the long term, and since it's something official from LastPass, we think it will be more stable in the future. We included a way to mimic 13.5.6 (the option I mentioned).

The changes in 13.6.0 is why I would like you to try the LastPass CLI and change the mode to Mobile.

Hi Hubert

Thanks for the details. I don't know the CLI myself, I would have to ask some of our tech guys.
I did change the mode to mobile via <LastPassIsDesktopMode>false</LastPassIsDesktopMode> and now it's working again in this version.
So it seems via mobile mode it's fixed again, but via CLI / Desktop it does not work yet.

Best regards.

Hello Patrick,

It would be great if you could try out the CLI but I'm glad to hear the mobile mode fixed the issue. We'll add an option in File > Options > Types > Credentials so it's easier to toggle on and off.

Hi Hubert

Some good news. We don't get any timeouts in our script anymore. So this seems to be fixed.
Just still wondering why the normal LastPass integration does not work with the new CLI implementation without putting it in mobile mode?

Did you test it with a free Account? Does it work for you?

Best regards.

Hello Patrick,

Glad to hear about the timeouts!

We tested with Free, Enterprise and Premium accounts. All three work properly in CLI mode for us. I also set up an account with a 256 character password since you mentioned having a long password, but this also doesn't affect the behavior for us.

Hello Hubert

How about a remote session, so you can test it out and log everything you need to see, why this problem occurs. You could even try out your own account to see if it has something to do with that. (You could also send me the credentials of the free account (if it's just a test account) via private message and I can test this one out as well, as we know this one works 100% for you.)

Best regards.
