How to open RDM "as different user" and pass credentials through for RDP connections?

We have separate "administrative accounts" that must be used for all administrative functions. We all open RDM with Shift+Right Click, then "run as different user", or modify the shortcut to use a path like this:

C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /user:MyDomain\MyAcct "C:\Program Files (x86)\Devolutions\Remote Desktop Manager\RemoteDesktopManager.exe"

Once RDM opens under the admin account, I can't see a way to get the credentials to pass through to RDP connections. We have had to resort to "My Personal Credentials" with a user name and password, which is less than ideal since it does not appear to be encrypted.

Is there any way to pass along the credentials that were used to open RDM into RDP connections?

Hello,

Unfortunately, this is not possible.

Credentials used to for login in RDM are completely independent from what is used for authentication against sessions.

One alternative is to use the User Specific Settings feature to override the credentials of the sessions to use your own credentials.

The other alternative is to make use of the Private Vault if you want to save your credentials and have them only available to yourself.

Thank you! I will investigate these other options.

You mentioned that I can use the Private Vault if I want credentials "only available to yourself". Does this mean "My Personal Credentials" are accessible to others? Are these stored in the SQL database somewhere? I thought the passwords were only available within RDM on my machine. If this is not the case, I'll need to know about it for auditing purposes.

Hello,

The My personal credentials feature indeed securely stores credentials on your local machine when used. They are not accessible to others.

The Private vault gives you the advantage of having credentials stored also securely in the database which means if you login on another computer with your database user, you will have access to those credentials.

RDM offers protection by default but we also offer the ability to push the protection of the database content further by applying a Security Provider;
https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/administration_securityproviders.htm

If you find this interesting and would like to use it, please perform a backup of your database before applying a security provider.

If you need more information on the My Personal credentials feature, here's an article for you;
