Run SSMS as another user

Hi

I am wondering why creating a session that should launch SQL Server Management Studio as another user isn't working for me. I tick "integrated security", and then under Run as Different user I am specifying my domain admin credentials. However it still launches the application under my personal account. I tried it with the "prompt for credentials" option as well.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Have you checked "Net Only"?

With Net Only, the app will run under the logged in context but the SQL connection will be under the "run as" account.

You can test to see the connected user this SQL command: select CURRENT_USER, SYSTEM_USER

Can you try to invoke runas via the command line?

Something like this:

%systemroot%\system32\runas.exe /user: DEVOLUTIONS132\demo "\"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\140\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\Ssms.exe\" -S DEVOLUTIONS132\SQL2016 -E"
