I am totally new to RDM so it could be my fault but a I cannot get this seemingly easy task to work. This is what I tried:
1. Create new session, select SSH
2. Enter IP and user name (no password)
3. Klick "Private Key" tab, select "file" and select a valid private key file (Putty can connect with this file)
4. Klick "Ok"
5. Try to connect: "Server refused our key"
Second try.
1. Create a new key from within RDM
2. Save private key
3. Copy public key to authorized_keys file on server
4. Set up everything as above: same result
5. Try the key with Putty: "Server refused our key"
So a key created with Putty keygen does work in Putty but not in Remote Destop Manager, a key created within Remote Desktop Manager does not work, neither in Putty nor in Remote Desktop Manager
A connection using user name/password (without a public key) works but is nor option for me (I don't want to allow this auth method)
Any idea what could be going wrong here?
Thanks,
Michael
Hello,
What version of RDM are you running?
What type of SSH session have you created? Is it SSH Shell?
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
Free Version that was most recent yesterday (4.5.3.0) and yes, just a simple SSH shell, no tunnel, proxy or other extras.
I am just evaluating so I try to keep things simple. Only possible complication is that the first key (created by Putty) has a pass phrase.
To avoid even this complication I created the second key (the one I created with the RDM SSH key generator) without a pass phrase.
Sorry for the noise. I checked the server logs und found the reason: Invalid user name -- I had a typo in the user name. :-(
Hello,
Does this means that everything is working now?
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
Don't know about "everything", since I am still testing but looks good so far. The reported problem was definitely my fault and the SSH connection is working now.
