Documentation: URL instead of editor

Would is be possible to open a website to view documentation instead of using the documentation directly in RDM?

We would prefer to use SharePoint (for example a word document); or a "readme" in VSTS (Visual Studio Team Services). This way the documentation is indexed in the search we use.

Hi,
You would like to load the SharePoint documentation in the documentation tab?

Yes, i would like to load a word document in SharePoint as the 'documentation' for a folder / entry.

If you are able to use a external URL as source of visualization of the "documentation tab" ; this would create a enormous amount of possibilities
=> Document in SharePoint
=> Readme file from VSTS / github
=> WIKI page
...

Currently you can do this by addion http link and disable the toolbar (see attachment).

Its just an idea.

Hello there - sorry to dig this up.

But thats we are looking too - we have our documentation in a wiki - would be great to load the wiki page into the documentation tab.

It's on our todo list to rework the documentation section to include external integration but I can give you a time frame yet.

ok, thank you for the information, meanwhile we work with webpage entries ;)

We would also like to see this. We use Teams/SharePoint/OneDrive for storing our documentation.

Hello ,
This is on our todo list but we don't know how we could do that. Let us know if you know how we could do that in .NET

How about an iframe?

<iframe src='https://xxx.sharepoint.com/sites/xxx/_layouts/15/WopiFrame.aspx?sourcedoc={xxx}&action=edit&wdStartOn=1' width='476px' height='288px' frameborder='0'>This is an embedded <a target='_blank' href='https://office.com'>Microsoft Office</a> document, powered by <a target='_blank' href='https://office.com/webapps'>Office Online</a>.</iframe>

https://www.google.com/search?q=edit+teams+document+in+iframe&rlz=1C1GCEA_enUS925US925&oq=edit+teams+document+in+iframe&aqs=chrome..69i57.8272j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

I would settle for link that opens in another app as well. I have tried a couple different URLs to the document, they open in a browser but not thru RDM.

Hello,
I will have to do some tests. Thank you for the suggestion.

Hi,

I would also love to see att least "open link in default browser" feature from documentation tab.

Best regards,
Rok

@Rok,
Could you elaborate with more detail about the workflow you would like?

Here are some conceptual options.

In documentation tab, link is opened in "same" window, I would like to send it to external default browser (no idea if possible in html code, a href does not work :-) )... But our users would like to have a bunch of links on the documentation tab and they expect it would trigger default system broser with that url

Best regards,
Rok

This all seems to work already. At least for another site. I entered the URL to our clients PSA tool page in the Confluence field of the RDM company entry.

Our PSA page now shows on the "Confluence" tab. Nice.

Hello,

@Rok: We'll open a ticket to add an option for this. As far as I know it's not possible through HTML.

@garyh: I'm glad this works for you, this kind of scenario is why we added this possibility.
